Christians in Action Entertain at Strathaven Residents of Strathaven Nursing Home were entertained on Thursday evening by a group of young aduits who eall themselves Christians in Action. They w.ýre formed about two years ago, under the leadership of Ron Motum and meet once a week,,usually at Northminster United Church, Oshawa, although their membership cornes from a wide area. The current Membership Search Committee chaired by Grant MacDonald, Chairman of the Port Perry Hospital Board will meet soon to review the approved guidelines ançl develop a procedure for inviting citizens of Durham to sit on the Council when vacancies occur. The guidelines include provision for, geographical representation as' well as professional or volunteer affiliation and consumer- provider status. 0f the seventeen members seven are prof essionals in the health care system, seven lay persons and three appointees of Regional Government. Other decisions made by the Council included - support of a request by Simcoe Hall Crippled Children Centre for an additional Speech Pathologist specifically to look after the needs of preschoolers. - support to the Oshawa General Hospital to construct a storage facility adjacent to the hospitals recovery room. - a decision to accept an invitation by the Lindsay District Working Group for the Mentally Retarded to have a represent- ative of the DHIC sit on the Working Group. (The District Working Group advises Ministry of Community and Social Services Minister Keith Norton on the needs of the Mentally Retarded in Durham Region and the Tri Counties of Haliburton, Peterborough and Victoria). - acceptance of reports from the Councils two major Task Forces - Mental Health and Long Term Care- Geriatrics. The Mental Health Committee has -established a working group on Substance Abuse to be chaired by Geoff Brown, Director of Addiction Research Foundation Office in Durham Region.
