16 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, August 30, 198 Section Two Y11ELVERTON Sympathy is extended to Mrs. Neil McNeil and boys of Janetville R.R. on the sudden passing of husband and father from a heart attack last Sunday.. Neil, an old school mate of ours when attending Janetville Continuation Scbool, was an above average athiete in bis younger years, active in baseball and hockey depending on the season. He *was an employee of General Motors for a number of years, farmed in partnership with bis brother Harold and currently was employed in Lindsay and part-time farmer-rancher. Neil will be sadly missed by a wide circle of friends with his twinkly eyed humour. Miss Lana Malcolm spent the weekend with relatives and friends in Bowmanville. Mr. Dave Parrott of Lindsay preached at a joint service of Janetville - 'Yelverton at Velverton United Church on Sunday morning to a small congregation. Next Sunday' should see services return to normal time and place with our new minister in attendance. A number of local residents attended Blackstock Fair or the Pork B.B.Q. in the evening. Several rock fans were present at Canada Jam at Mosport this weekend and report a most enjoyable time. Miss Jane Connolly and Marti Malcolm attended the wedding of an old girl friend, Miss Kim Lutis and Mr. Ken McKay o! Pickering on Saturday. The wedding was a colourful outdoor lawn wedding held at the bride's parents residence. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Fick were weekend visitors at Malconia prior to taking a weeks holiday in the Highlands of Haliburton. Three young ladies from this area enjoyed the bus trip to Cape Cod this weekend - Mrs. Dorotby Draper, Mrs. Maurice Nesbitt and Mrs. Barbara Hamilton. Yelverton series with Port Perry as o! Sunday evening is tîed 1 game each with the final game to be played in Port Perry this Wednesday. Yelverton took the first game 7-3 or such like but lost on Sunday, 1-0 in a close game. The winner pînys Pontypool for the Charlie McCullough Trophy. Mrs. Hazel Wittaker of Trenton spent a few days last week at the Howard Malcolms. Hazel is moving to an apnrtment in Lindsay at the end o! the montb. Cburch services, our last outdoor service, was held at Grace Marsh's home. Rev. Rex Norman fromn the Bible Society was our guest speaker. Music was supplied by Mrs. B. Gray, Mrs. R. Smith and Mrs. Ford and ber daughter played for the trio. Fruit bread 'and coffee was served by the Canton ladies at the close. Mr. and Mrs. H. Quantrill, Mr. and Mrs. G. Scott spent a couple of days with Mr. and Mrs. John Quantrill, Kingsville near Windsor last week. Mrs. Nettie Muldrew, Bow- manville, spent a fewdays witb Mr.* and Mrs. C. Mercer's. While here Mrs. Mercer took ber to see Mrs.. Mae Trew at Golden Plougb, Mr. and Mrs. C. Beatty and Mrs. E. Beatty and Iona Gilmer at Port Hope. Mr. and Mrs. H. Muldrew bad Mr. and Mrs. Ray Averys and family, Oshawa, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Muldrew and girls, Port Hope, and Miss Wendy White on Sunday at different times. Mr. and Mrs. John Currier and family, Port Hope, were with Mr. and Mrs. Howard Quantrill on Sunday. Mr. -Ad%--Mrs. Jobn D hadj tea à wiît h Mr. -and- Mrs.- R.
