Chris Steel was a 'double winner as he defeated Oshawa's Murray Farncomb 6-0, 7-5, in the under 16 class and 6-0, 6-3, in the under 18 tennis finals at the recent Oshawa and District championships. BOB'S TOWING - team in the United Auto Worker's Lob Bail tournament, recently won the championship in Oshawa, with a 6-5 win on a home mun by Rtay Moore in the l3th inning. Bob's Towing also won the league title, and the UAW picnic tournament, earlier this summer. BOWMANVILLE- Country Club golf championship play-offs start this Saturday morning, 8:30, running until 2-3 p.m. Anyone interested in watching the matches is cordially invited to attend. SQUIRT SOCCER TOURNAMENT - The Community Services Squirt Soccer League will hold a tournament on Saturday, September loth at Pine Ridge School. This event will wrap up the Squirt Soccer for this year. ALMOST A HABIT - The Darlington Senior Soccer League playoffs ended on Saturday with Solina, as predicted, knocking off Armstrong's IGA from Orono X- to win the series and the championship for the umpteenth time. The game, played at Solina, drew a large crowd of enthusiastic specta tors. Sooner or later, somebody is going to beat that Solina team but not this year, although the opposition is coming dloser. Congratulations again. IN THE FINALS - In the Men's Town League, Frank's Variety finished off Kramp's Furniture last Thursday after a tough and close series. Nôw, it's the finals when they meet a power packed team fromn Port Darlington Marina. The games began last night and will continue Thursday, at Memorial Park with game time 7 o'clock. This series should produce some exciting action. WIN TROPHY - Slow pitch or lob baîl is probably the fastes t growing sport in the area, with 20 teams' in one league, plus a girl's league. The Goodyear' sponsored team went afield on the weekend, taking part in the Dairy Queen tournament in Oshawa, winning five games and the Dairy Queen trophy. Anyone who thinks slow pitch is a mild game compared to regular softball should see the injury list. Three or four of the Goodyear team are hobbling around or are taped up to keep them mobile. END 0F THE SEASON - Kendal Eagles, one of the teams still left in the basebaîl circuit, finished a tough series with Colingwood on Sunday afternoon. They had lost the opener the week before, won the second game, so this was a do or die effort. It was anybody's battle for most of the game but Collingwood came through in the end to win. West, 623-3421 Kendal Ousted from Playdowns by Collingwood Kendal Eagles bowed out of further playdowns on Sunday afternoon in Jackson Memorial Park, losing the third and deciding game of the best of three series to Collingwood Cavemen 8 - 6. They had split the two previous games. About haîf way through the game, the Eagles appeared to have it under control, but the roof fell in later. These pictures show some of the action that had the crowd applauding for the home team. Top photo shows a Kendal Eagle scoring to put them ahead and in the lower picture, John Robinson slides sa el into third bas e hitting a triple that scored another, Eagle ahead of him. The Alliston pitcher threw a four hitter to lead his team to an 11-1 victory. Loose fielding -in the seventh inning cost the Courtice squad the victory, as they allowed seven runs to score. Rob Kiveil pitched a good game for Courtice, with Gord Sharp getting on base four times.
