16 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, S N.qewtonville On Thursday, Mrs. Sharon Buttery, Mrs. Amelia Lancaster and Mrs. Queenie Fletcher attended the District W.I. meeting at Hampton, where plans, were made for the coming 'Fun fair.' Sorry to report Mr. Frank Gilmer is a patient in "Intensive Care" in Memorial Hospital, Bowmanville, as of last Tuesday, at 3:15 a.m,. Mrs. Bea Jones attended the District 28 S.T.O. Teachers' Dinner at the "Holiday Inn", Oshawa, last Thursday. The second, "Planning Meeting" for the Hamiet of Newtonville was held Thursday evening in our Community Hall with about forty five in attendance. The saine Offiials attended, as >at 'the first meeting and there was 'a review of maps, etc. from that meeting. Several people were not satisfied with those maps, claiming, they were inaccurate, with no allowance for commercial or Ind ustrial Buildings, and, also, with incorrect soil tests. Engineer Kristoff and Chairman Dykstra answered these questions and plan to have a re-study of al grievances and to caîl another meeting for further discussion, at, some future date. Tea and cookies were served by the ladies at the close. Visitors the past week with the Gilmers included, Mrs. Mary Vinkle, Mrs. Myrtie Kloster, Mrs. Marlene Stacey, Mrs. Mary Skelding, Mr. Victor Wilson, Mrs. Lena Clysdale, Miss Inez Symons, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Gil- mer of Islington, Mr. A. Ton, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Gilmer of Port Hope, Mr. Jeff Girrer of Aurora,, Mr. Phil Gilmer, Blaine, Kim and Tammy Innes. Eileen, and Don Stapleton were the greeters at our church door, Sunday morning, when there was a good crowd of old friends and former neighbors to- welcome members of the Redknap family from Oshawa, who were present, for the Dedication of the Urns. The "Four M's" sang an enjoyable number, "Precious Memories", quite in keeping with the occasion, with Violet. Gilmer at the piano. -ë Rev. Tizzard introduced newcomers to Our congregation, Mr. and Mrs. A. Purdy, who stood up and were given a hearty handclap. Mrs. Acey Farrow and Mrs. Bea Jones took part in the Dedication, the latter mentionfing the important part thie Redknap famnily had always taken, in churchi and community activities, here, years ago, and expressing the pleasure felt by al], in( welcoming them back. Members presenit were Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Redknap, their son, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Redknap, Alfred's mother, Mrs. Ella Redknap, and hier sister, Mrs. Lena Chester. The U.C.W. Ladies served lunch for the visitors and friends downstairs, after the service, our minister spoke briefly on the important part we are ail called on to perform to go out with God's message of love and interpret it,, to al those wth whom we come in contact, from day to day. Mr. and Mrs., Lawrence Gilmer of Tonawanda, New York,,visited his father, Mr. F. Giler in Memorial Hospital, Sunday. Members of tlbe Farrow family took Mrs. va Farrow out to "The Acres" for dinner, Sunday, in honor of hier 8th birthday. Those present beside the guest of were Sunday callers with Mrs. Leone Lane and Mr. and Mrs. C.M. Jones. Newtonville Women's Institute met in the Sunday School Hall on Wednesday, September 2th and in the absence of President Bernice Milligan, Vice-President Sharon Buttery opened with the Ode, and the Mary Stewart Collect. Minutes of previous meeting were given by Secretary- Treasurer Jean O'Neill and adopted, as read. Two minutes' silence were observed in memory of the late Mrs. A. Quinney. Leaders of the Course in Neeiepoint are to be Queenie Fletcher, Madeline Buckley, and Gladys Wood.
