Miss Stewart opened the meeting by reading a Thanksgiving poem. The min- utes of the August meeting and a report on the September bus trip were read and approved as read. The roil cali was answered by telling what 'I am thankful for'. Rev. A. Tizzard was the speaker for the evening, speaking on preserving the pioneer lis- tory. He told of his-experience at a former charge in Oxford, Nova Scotia where they clear- ed the trees and undergrowth from an abandoned cemetery around the church and found a luge monument to the founder of the community and who had donated the land for the church. He then gave' each member present a most inter- esting bookiet entitled 'Where Pioneers Sleep in Oxford' which le had written for the people there. The cost of painting the church was submitted, the ladies moved to pay a portion of it, also a donation toward Alcohol and Drug Concern Inc. Money was collected for subscriptions to the Observer. The ladies are serving lunch after Anniversary Service on Oct. 22 and the Tupperware Demonstration in the S.S. room on Oct. 10. The meeting was closed by Rev. Tizzard, afterwhich lunch was served. The range, Lodge 405 met on Wednesday evening in Kendal Orange Hall, the special occasion being Past Masters Night. There were twelve framed certificates presented. The past masters receiving them were Messrs. Vernon Peacock of Elizabeth- ville, Lawrence Greenwood, Garland Catlcart, Arthur Tlompson, John Lowery, James Lowery, Clarence Allen of Woodville, Lloyd Lowery, Reg Elliott, Roy Patton, Tom Wilson of Newc- castle and Wayne Lowery of Scarborough. There were guests present fromn neighbor- ing lodges. Following the meeting Brenda Lowery, Ro- berta Russel, Cathy Switzer and Mabel Elliott lelped serve a meal to between twenty-five and thirty. The lucky draw of the evening was won by Cathy Switzer. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Skerratt and family from 'Mt. Albert epent the holiday with his parents Mr. and Mrs. David Skerratt. .Mrs. George Hamilton fromn Yarmouth Nova Scotia is visiting with her mother Mrs. Margaretta Stevens also on the weekend were Mr. and Mrs. J. Hellebust and family of Toronto. With Mr. and Mrs. George Mercer for Thanksgiving day were Mr. and Mrs. Brian Foster and family and Mr. and Mrs. Doug Walker and family. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Little and Lynne had Thanksgiving din- ner Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Bailey and family. Visiting with Helen Boyd on the weekend were Mr._ Ray- mond Bovd and friend from AV E. OSHAWA 576 1220 Young equestrians from a wide area converged on a colofful area west of Bethany on Sunday for the annual Thanksgiving event sponsored by Bethany Hunt Club. The jumping in the afternoon over a well laid out course produced some good scores plus a few spills with minor injuries being treated by a St. John Ambulance crew standing by. Trrophies and ribbons were awarded to the winners. Millbrook and on Saturday were Mr. Ronnie Clancy and Bey. Law from Mississauga and for Sunday supper Mr. and Mrs. George Palmer, Mr. Pat Palmer from Elizabeth- ville, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Clow and two sons from Bewdley. Mr, and Mrs. Larry Teitel- baumn from New York spent. the weekend with their cousin Miss Catherine Stewart and on Sunday afternoon they held a family reunioni when about twenty set down to a dinner around three p.m. There were guests from Belleville, Thorn- hili, Toronto and Port Hope. At church on Sunday morn- ing Rev. A. Tizzard's sermon was entitled 'Canada - A South Land' taken from Numbers 14:7. After comparing our country to a south land along the River Jorden - a south land, hie preached a fine Thanksgiving message on our fair domain. Mr. Jack Westlake was at the door.
