With her is Shirley Coyle, public relations chairman of the blood donor clinic. Northumberland and Newcastle teachers helped organize the clinic as a special project this year. Last Wednesday's Red Cross Blood Drive.was very successful. Just under 400 donors came to the Lion's Centre on Beech Avenue from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00Op.m. It was predicted that the number would go above 400 but polio shots given to high sehool students the day before meant that many regular donors were rejected. There was representation from most elementary schools in the area including Vincent Massey, Lord Elgin, Ontario Street, Bowmanville Senior, The Pines, Orono-Lockhart, M.J. Hobbs, Mitchell's Corners, Newcastle, Newtonville, Enniskillen, Hampton and Waverley. Many teacher-donors gave for the first time and although they were required to rest longer afterwards, Most found it a not unpleasant experience. Miss Marjorie Couch, retired NORMAN teacher, past principal of Lord Elgin Public School said that she had corne because the teachers were sponsoring the clinic. Thanks are extended here to the managers of local stores who gave donations of food for the tea room. Donations amounting to about ten dollars were received from Dykstras, Miracle Mart, IGA, A & P and Dominion Stores. Earlier this year Dr. Marcel Kinsbourne addressed a large group of parents and teachers concerning the treatment of hyperactive children. At the planning stage for the faîl is a series of lectures for parents dealing with children. This will probably be a joint venture with other services for children.
