Now on Special at Participating stores OBITUARY PERCIVAL (PERCY) HAYES A former emplayee at General Motors wba retired in 1966 witb 37 years' service, Percival (Percy) Hayes of R.R. 2, Oshawa, passed away in Osbawa General Hospital on Tuesday, May lst, 1979. Born May 29, 1899, in Darlingtan, England, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Hayes, and bad resided in Canada and Oshawa since 1905. A member of St. George's Anglican Cburcb, he was a life member af Temple Masonic Ladge 649, a member of the Canadian Corps Association of the Navy Club, and of the UAW Retirees' Club. During the First Warld War, he served averseas. witb the ll6tb Battalion, Canadian Army. He is survived by bis wife, the former Mary Severs, whom be married in St. George's Anglican Church in, 1927; twa sons, Cliffard and Brian, bath af Oshawa; tbree daugbters, Mrs. Clinton Henning (Marian), of Bow- manville, Mrs. Dennis Banner (Margaret), of Germany, and Mrs. Edgar- Slaan (Audrey), af Oshawa; twa sisters, Mrs. Vctor Berry (Eva), of Ajax, and Mrs. Jack Ashby (Doratby), of Oshawa; 17 grandchildren, and six great- grandcbildren. He was prede- ceased by a brother William. Mr. Hayes rested at the Mclntosh-Anderson Funeral Home, Oshawa. Service was held in the chapel Friday. Crematian. Rev. Peter Wil- liams officiated. Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society wauld be gratefully acknow- ledged. Bay of Quinte U.C.W. Hold Their Annual Conference Some three hundred and forty ladies met at Cambridge St. United Church for the l7th Annual Meeting of the Bay of Quinte United Church Women, led by President Mrs. Evelyn Redpath of Oshawa, April 3 and 4. The theme of the Conference was, "The Year of the Child." He especially emphasized the work of women in the church, saying that, now, as Moderat- or he is seeing work that bis mother has begun. Reports for the vear have shown a most successful Pragram ofactivities. Three inspiring workshop services were given on "The Year of the Child", by Oshawa, Ren- frew and Belleville Presby- books were sold at the conference. The afferings at the conference were designat- ed for support of the newly formed, "Northern Pastoral, Region" of the Conference area. Mrs. Marjorie Levan was the Theme Leader on "Come as a Child". She presented the report for, the work of "Alcohol and Drug Concerns La." in Eastern Ontario. Her inspiring message and ber enthusiasm enicouraged the women to fight the alcohol traffic for the sake of their children. The Conference closed with the Moderator installing the officers for 1979. This was followed by a Communion Service administered by the Rev. Bessie Lane, assisted by the Moderator. Flora Dora Charms Audience in, Orono An evening of music was enjoyed by a large audience on April l8th when a concert was presented in the main hall of Orona United Church. Donald Staples was M.C. for the evening. The "Flora Doras-" a group of comedians, charmed everyone in attendance with their humour. Dora Harris partrayed the part of "Liberace" seated at the piano dressed exactly as be dresses complete with all the glitter and charm, diamond rings and candiebra. She informed us she bad came in straight from Las Vegas. Her manner of ipeech was slow, a close imitation and she referred frequently to my Mther and my brother George. She captivated ber audience and everyane was ready ta burst inta laughter. Everyane' who participated in the graup was very versatile, tbey played drums, cymbals, harns, one member played on a wash tub. They sang solos, duets and-quartet numbers. One lady tap danced adding ta the versatîlity of the group. They presented a Hawaiin number with grass skirts, bats and flowers. Th e lady who sang "Alice Blue Gowni" was bilariaus and the audience applauded ber favourably. They closed with a number imitating the "Sbiek of Araby". We were privileged ta bave in aur midst that evening the Oshawa Barbershap Quartet, The Four Wheel Drive, Lynn Brown, Wendell Grant, Don Gavas, Murray Osborne. These four gentlemen harmanized beautifully and with their several numbers added tremendously ta the evenings entertainment. We had a talented accomplished musician when Mrs. Alanab Cales of Bowmanville sang several vocal solos from ber repertaire. One favourite of the audience was the selection, "One Day at a Time", and "You Light up my Life", made popular by Debby Boone. Mrs. Cales was accompanied by David Gray at the piano. Alanah canducted a sing sang and accompanied berseif an the ukulele., She selected sacred and secular numbers and with ber pleasing personality and magnificent voice it was a higbligbt of the evening. The members of the Orono United Church Choir wisb ta express their thanks and appreciation ta everyone who purchased tickets, the respanse was fantastic. To everyane wbo assisted that evening or participated in any way, please accept aur gratitude.
