Merchants DOwn Whitby To K.op Record at .500 by Ralph Cryderman The Bowmanville Merchants evened their record at 2-2 by winning their second. consecutive game at home. Their victims last Sunday at Soper Creek Park were the Whitby Merchants, whom they defeated by the score of 3-2. It was another well played bail game providing the fans with some fine entertainment. Again, a gutsy pitching per- formance by Bowmanville ace Jim Stacey proved to be the backbone of the Bowmanville team. He again went the distance, keeping the visitors off balance, while throwing what battery mate Mike Corneli called. Stacey also got help a few times with some Sharp fielding plays by the rest of the team. Horsemanship On Dispa,,lay This Sunday Horsemanship will be on display this Sunday in the Hunter Pace and Cross Country Trials which will be held at the C.F.R.B. Farm near Orono. The competition is organized by the Bethany Hills Hunt and is open to members and visitors. The Hunter Pace is a fun event with the competition being for pairs over a simulat- ed short hunt. The pairs are timed over a course which is followed with the aid of a set of written instructions and a map. Objeet of the competition is to complete the course with an elapsed time equivalent to the Huntsman's In the Cross Country Trials the object is to negotiate the approximately two-mile course in the fastest time possible. The competition will be run in three classes: Individual, Pairs and Teams with riders being able to Hwy. No. 2, o0 Stacey scored the first Bowmanville rua as he hit a solo home r ua over the lef t field f ence. The Merchants collected two more ruas in the bottom of the sixth as Murray O'Brien and Ron Stainton crossed the plate. Whitby got two back in the seventh but failed to score after that. The Merchants travelled to Little Britain earlier in the week and were beaten by the Generals. A very lacklustre performance by the team will hopefully be the last of its kind seen this year. If the teamn concentrates and plays as they have in their last two games at home, they will surely have a successful season. Their next game was Tuesday, June 5th when they, returned to Whitby for a 7:30 game. participate in any or ail of the classes. The Hunter Pace begins at 9:30 and the Cross Country Trials at 10 a.m. The events are heldat the residence of Mr. Fred Beaucage, just off Highway 35 near the junction of Highway 35 and 115, north of Orono. Contestants may enter on the day of the event however ahl participants are encouraged to pre-enter. The 2 BILLION* \Jl DOLLAR QUESTION Stroke to the Canadian economy each year. Gîve...
