Committee- to Investigate Industrial Development A committee was formed by town council Monday to study the impacts on this municipality of future decisions and those recently made concerning Darlington and Wesleyville Generating Stations and the Eldorado Refinery. Councîllor Jasper Holliday wilI serve as chairman of the committee with Cauncillors Ivan Hobbs, Ann Cowman and Bill Clarke as members. A number of important announcements have been made recently which could affect the town of Newcastle, said Mayor Garnet Rickard in a report to council, such as the delay in construction of the Darlington Generating Station and the shelving of' the Wesleyville coal-fired station east of Newtonville. Since the federal election is now over, an annauncement regarding the location of the new Eldorado Refinery plant is expected ta be announced, explained the Mayor. One of the sites being considered is in this municipality. The committee will also be charged with reviewing the Hydro agreement signed between the town and the Ontario Hydro and determining if and when another supplementary agreement la needed. The committee will report periodically to council and its first report should be in July. Mayor Rickard suggested that only the three regional councillors sit' on the committee but they argued that they are new to council and would like Councillor Holliday to be chairman since he has, the necessary background and could provide the committee with some form of continuity.
