Each ciass from the kindergarten to the seniors shared a special message with the congregation in.word and song. Tim Southwell was pianist. Ushers were Dale Pascoe and Ian Bowers. A former Sunday School student Dawn Vaneyk was guest speaker. Dawn's talk deait wtb the importance of the way in which we are in touch with the people around us. She Psed a short story, appropriate scripture and sbared some of bier own -experiences and recoliections to develop the topic. Apprec- iation was extended to Dawn by Mr. Edgar Wright, Enniskilen. Dawn attends Harcourt -Church, Guelph where she wiii assîst at a chturch service in July. ,Sunday School wfil begin again in September. Wing on Sunday evenîng, June 3, 1979. After a delicous meal served by the mothers the following presentations were made by the leaders, Mr. Ralph Bowers and Mr. David Johnston - Graduate Gary Vaneyk was presented with a certificate and pin. Good attendance at Sunday Sehool Jason Webb, Todd Bowers, Gary Vaneyk, Ian DeHaas, Craig Bowers. Each Tyro boy received a sturdy useful knapsack from Tyros and a special gift from John Webb, father of Jason Webb. After a resoundîng "Tyro Yell"' films were shown by Mrs. Walter Park. The Bowers boys brought their great grand- father Mr. Lionel Byam as well as grandfather Walter Park . Rev. Kempling and Mrs. Kempling and Mrs. Aif Knowlton were guests aiso. Courtice High School Band Formai dinner and dance was held in the Tyrone Commnnity Hall on Thursday, May 31, 1979 when music students and parents enjoyed a lively social evening. Congratulations to Ellen Vaneyk, winner of Trent University's Canadian Studies essay contest, along with Neil ,MacLean, Chelmsford, Ontario. With 98 members present, the sports commit tee conducted a very interesting 4 ~\ variety of races, some of which were entertaining to watch as weii as to participate in. -x Shortiy after five o'clock, i- everyone went inside for a delicious buffet supper, after ~ weicomed everyone and conducted the business ,âe meeting. A new siate of officers was eiected for a two year term as foiiows: President - Bert Snowden, Vice President -Bill Snowden, Secretary- Treasurer - Neilie Brown, Table Committee - Sam and Helen Van Camp, Wes and Greta Down, Nefi and Joyce Brownell. Sports Committee - John Snowden, Jeffrey Down and Scott Down. The "Snowden Family"l plaque was awarded to Charlie Snowden's branch of the family with the greatest percentage in attendance. Gifts were presented by the sports committee, to the lady and gentleman present who were the oidest in years, but the youngest at beart. These were won by Lola Freeman and Lloyd Snowden. A jar of jelly beans was won by ~EdnIa Van Camp for having teciosest guess to the number of jeily beans la the jar. As dishes were done and belongings coliected, goodbyes were said. Tyrone Hosts Carling Cup Soccer Tournament Nine teams from the Darlington Soccer League took to the field Saturday in the Carling Cup soccer tournament held at Tyrone. In the championship game, Solina edged Zion by a 1-0 decision to win the tournament. Orono defeated Courtice 3-1 to clinch the consolation prize. Court Venture Foresters Plan Officers Installation Court Venture No. 1892 held their monthiy meeting at the Centennial Hall, May 23 with Pres. Poilard presiding assisted by Vice Sis. Faye Alien, 14 members in attendance and one guest. Sis. Lii Barker from Oshawa was present. She had been chosen Forester of the Year at Assembly. Sis. Faye Allen wili attend Higb Court in July at London, Ont. as our repre- sentative. Pres. Pollard heid second nominations for guards and our new officers for the iiew year wil be installed at a joint installation with the men at their meeting on Monday, June l8tb. Will Meet To Discuss Pool Plans The municipalîty, SPLASH and the Northumberland- Newcastle school board will try again next Wednesday, June 13, in Cobourg to come to terms on the details of an agreement for construction of an indoor swimming pool and squash courts at Bowmanvilie High Schooi. The board approved a draft agreement in eariy May but the town would not ratify it without making some more changes. These changes basicaiiy give the board iess say in the construction pro- cesthan was originaiiy proposed. So, the two parties must meet again to resolve their differences.
