H. E. Walkey moved, seconded by J. H. Lowery that Mr M. H. Staples be given permission to present the 1955 Auditors report. This action arose from the discussion cf Clarke Council's resolution concern- ing same. A letter was received from the Village et Long Branch: Moved by Councillor L. Ford, sc- onded by Deputy-Reeve M. Breen Reholution No. 118, Date April 11, 1956:I Whereas the last quarter century has seen great changes in the living standards of the people of Canada. , And whereas these changes have mcreased the variatioon ii the per- sonal income of the citizens. Aand whereas the icreased stan- dards demand more and more public 4 hervices both material and cultural. And whereas the Municipal Govern- ients are asked to supply many of these services from taxes based on values unrelated te moder incomes And whereas the Municipal per- centage of the total taxes paid has dropped from 29% to 11% despite the fact tit mill rates have increased while Provincial and Federal rates have decreased. Therefore be it resolved that thel Council of the Corporation of the Village of Long Branch petition the Association of Ontarijo Mayeor and Reeves and the Canadian Federation, of Mayors and Municipalities to peci- tion both the senior Governments to itake immediate action to re-divide the :fjeld o taxation.
