Býryan L. Cathcart, Mnister C19-63 Oronio ible Study Groui c April 29, 1963 I Niso long ago, there took place,c inafar country, thse trial of a man who had been instrumental in what is considered to be a mon- strous crime against humanity in general and thse Jews in particular. U Because this happened withln our lifetim+e, and1 touched many of those whom we mlght rub shiould» ers with, it seenis to be more hein-I oug, inhuman, and unforgiveable than something of past tinse .But is it? Since this trial ansd sentence, tise question lias been raîsedast this man's acceptability in heavEïn, and thse heat of 'public opinion tends to deny hlm entry. None of us'can reaily afford to brushthis Off witho ut serious thought;_ to corne to 'some understanding of the depth to which we are involved ln this issue. Even though we niay neyer have seen the man person- ally, we are obligated 'to assess the facts without bias, as far as we konw them, because he in in- dicative of mankind the world o ve r. Irregardless of the crlie committed, in truth we are of one blood, subject to the sanie weak- nesses, and glorified by the same potential greatnesses bestowed by God our Creator. Every day we do things by choice, even while we say, "I had no choice, 1 had to do it this way." Against our 'better judgement, our own will and not God's wiIl reigns supreme more often than we care to admit. Was tlins man aware of what lie was doing? 'Did he know God? If hie dîd know God, could lie still act as 'le dtd? Could aperson know God and others not be aware of it? These questions related to this man's erme. Hie had to thînk be- fore he acted, so what kind of thinking was behin'd such actions. We al fo110w the saine procedure and might well say, "There, but for the Grace of God, go 1". Some of us may have queer twists in our nature that we don't know just how to handie; maybe this man was suoh a one, how do we know. It hias been said th.!-at lhe came of a family of noin-ral Christians. "Nominal" means 'in namie only' and there, are many sucli nominal Christians ail arounci us. D)o we quaiify? As a nfninal Christian do we neglect to enligliten those who stand in need of knowing God, as could have been the case with thls man. God judges the heart, and we shouid beware 0f deeming our- selves above thse possibility of such things as this man was a party td; for John said, "Whosoever hatetis bis brother is a murderer." and there are maniy degýfees of hatred. Are our thouglits always pure and harheiess;, aiways »weetness and lig ht? We may hate thse sin but flot the sinner, Murder is just as black whether done once or six million times; for it mneans that the mur- rerer is lu an unharmonious re- lationship wîth God, but he may still turn to Him. We are living in the' dispensation of God's Grace, flot under thse iaw, and in honesty we may accept 45Gae God said, "Vengeance belongetis unto Me, I will recompense." Would this indîcate that in carry- ing out the death sentence on the above mentioned sinner, that we, as' mucli as lie, was-guilty of hur- dêr, for there was much hatred învolved in the decision. Wouid not something far greater, a truer victory, have been realized, if vengeance had been leIt to God? After ail, we each crucify Christ many times over in our blindness, while we blithely take for granted our forgiveness, wbile forgetting (Continued page 5) In Kendal Orange Hall MAUY il at 7:30 p.m. Penny & Bake Sale Sponsored by Kendal W. 1.
