IThere were a dozen ladies in three cars. As we drove on to the grounds one lady remarked that she had been here several years ago when it was nothing but a sandy field.-We learned later that the boys lad planted 6,000( trees s0 the camp will be more beauti- fui as the years go by. Last fail, this writer 'drove into the camp and observed a crew of tweive boys working on, the frame work of a garage with the truck parked in the centre they were building the garage around the truck ( or (so it appeared. On Wednesday Mr. Frank Mil-. l er Who is in charge of the For- estry Camp said, "We will look iin at the boys working in their craft shop." So he raised the over- head door of.the garage, they hiad made last fali, and we observed a' dozen boys making drift Wood in- to T.V. Lamps, 'some were sand- papering, shellacing etc., two weýre sawing boaràs for a ping ponig table I1 believýe, ail seemed to bue interested. I inight explain it was threatening ramn so they were working, inside. Anot her crew o! a dozen boys had gone that day to wor-k at "The Dell", which lsaa very pretty, camping place- nortb of McLeans School. Mr. Ed Young- man begap, the work on "The Dell" and the boys are lending assistance iný improvlng it. Then we were ushered into Mr. Miller's office' where we rgse- ed. The flo.or Was perfectly tiled, do;ne -of- course by the boys. They leari by doing. The camp kitchen was immaculate and is managed by two cooks assisted by the boys,. One lad wa s preparing the des- sert which looked very temptig. We understand that the boys pre- pare their own breakfast which they enjoy doing. We toured the dormitories where the thirty-two lads sleep and we saw the shower'room. We walked ini the Public Park north of the camp, besîde the streami,,where the underbr-ush has been cleared away and the 'tal Norway pines give aweom shade. The, boys of. the fraining School have buitairtistic bridges., There' are barbecues in several places with Wood piled high for the visitors to use. They 'have made a "Nature' Trail" on the siope above the creek. The boys are able 40 enjoy this Public Par-k during the week, while the travr- elling public are there ini num-. bers each weekend or hioliday. The boys work from eight tili four then in their free time they carry out many projects that in-. terest them like building a drive- in theatre, or making a rink in winter, a basebail diamond in summer etc. They have classes also and are keenly interested in the science course. We observed two lads who were quite gifted in sketching although classroom work was finished at the end of May. -, The slogan of the army miglit be used here, "Sons of tramips: or sons of Rings, we teach them to be men." Our presîdent, Mrs. W. H. Fos- ter, expressed the appreciation of the U.C.W. to Mr. Miller for the kind hospitallty shown'us. Mr. Les Morgan had a narrow escapýe on Friday night. He was returning home about midnight Iwhen bis steering gear broke in the car, as he was passing over the bridge north of Mr. John Kor- opatwa's home on the sixth line. The car turned over on its top ini the creek. Hie was trapped inside for a long time with the water Up to bis waist. Many cars went by but none saw bis overturned car. At last he managed to pry open a door and climb ont beside the wire fence. Hie was shaking with the cold but none the worse, Remember Kendal Sunday CUCUMIERS Ont no. I 12
