ORONO- WEEKÇLY, TIrdES. TIURSOAT, NOVEMBER 12th, 1964 Lookinig In At Orrgo and 'district objîdren ce tertainlyý making use of the new Tuesday iight opening bours at the Orono Library. Their response ztis Tutesday was enougb te 'waiLm rheckles of any Librarian's heant' At one time I counted 'ý0 lairly quiet and very well behaved Junior readers going around the shelves, making 'their selectioýn.j The sound of the fixe si-en created its usual diversion and there was general exedus to, the door bat, with curiosity satisfied,. thet warnith of the Libraryand busin .ss at hand again resumed major Over 60 books went ont ne- tween the hours of 6:30 p.m. and 8.30 p.m. and I feel that this is quite a remai-kable number and indicated a high interest in read- Îng among' the chiîdren of the ilillage. Perhaps I sheuld make it clear that whilst Tuesday night hours seems to be popular with the ~chldreni, the Library is open >to ail] members, bcth aduit and jun- 1 have been reading one of the niovels newly purchased by the Lîbrary an3d recommend] it to al readers who enfjcy a bit of iriih ularney. lt is "The Corianider" by Eilis Dillon. 1 see, frein the cover,ý that Miss Dillon bas been des-ý ribed by "Tbe, Times 'Literary1 Supplement" as an enchanter. lI was. certainly enchanted. Witb soi muoli readiug on hand one is s~ometimes 'guilty of skipping ]iglhtly over an occasionai passage] l- but not witb this book. Everyl ine needs to be savoured for fear a special turn of phrase or gem of lrish wit be miissed. St on a'tiny island on teWs -oast of Ireland, a sixteen year old village lad tells the story of ,events that foillwed the week cf "The Coriander" on the isiand'sI treacberous shores. This is simply1 and beautifully written and was, in fact, chosen with the teenage readers in mnd. I reccmmend t, however, not only te the young in Yearsý but the young at heart. Florence D. Raid.
