ORONO WEEKLY TIMES, THUTRSDAY, MAY Z7th, 1965 O-JRONO WEEKLY TIMES L b-Lshed l'n 1038 by R.A. Forrester Roy O oree - Editor and hÉanager (Àuthorized us Second Class mail, Poàt Office Department, Ottawu) Looking For Entertainment Resiclents in the area have a choice of local entertain- nMent during the aext two evenings. Both the Orono Public Sehool Glee Club and the Clarke High School Glee Club are prosnoting their respective performances which will feature local talent of a musical nature. The High School pre6sentation is being fheld toniglit, Thursday, in the auditorium of the Higli School. The Public Sehool Operetta is being held in the Town Hall on both Thursday and Friday evenng. Considerable work 'and effort goes into these per- formances and they do warrant our attendance andi support., Such efforts, featuring local talent, and especially the young voies of the Glee Clubs, is alîways a treat and a real source of enjoyment. Plan to turnodf the TV and enjoy a fresh new approacli to entertainment for the next two evenings. Then as a climax one may view the Flower Show by the Junior Gardeners in the Orono Church, Saturday afternoon. What Others Say A POSSIBLE SWING - The rental of port 'able lassrooms for the Port Hope Higli School should bring to the attention of the public as ^well as of the board the possibility of using portable rooms as a permanent or semi-pe rmanent solution to the chronic shortage of classro.omas. The board has decided to rent classroomns whle additional permanent space is being pro- vided, but under different circums'tances the board could -uy the rooms for about $6,000 per unit, far less. than the coest per classrooni of a conventional permanent sohool., even afterthe cost of auditoria and gymnasia is taken into alccount. The -cost 0f' providing new high school buildings has been ýburdening 'the taxpayers of the Durhami district for years and is'likely to continue -to doIoso. If it is possible to alleviate somne of the burden by using teTnipor-_ ary hiildingcs, such a soution should be considered very seriously. There is nothing new about sucli a suggestion. Tei- porary mobile schoolroom units have been used elsewhere with some success. They have tihe advantage that they can be moved to a différent sdhool as the school population fluctuates from area to area. The skyrocketing costs of high school education are' a matter of sersous conicera. Reeve Robert, Everson spoke cogently on the subi eût at a Board 0f Trade meeting last Tuesday, pointing out 4that hey have multiplied 25 tintes in 15 years while the student population lias slightly more than doubled. While mucli of the increae is due to higlier teachers' salaries and improved curricula, a good portion 0f it is in bricks and mortar for new buildings. if some of fühis could be saved, by using temporary buildings, it would seeni a good way to save the ratepayer a bit of the strain. -THIE PORT HOPE GUIDE Aithougli in tlieir iast two-out- In the game witn Frt Il ope ings the Orono Midgets have beên Orono was defeated 7-3. defeated they have shown.,signs Cameron Perrault Pitched th of having a, good team wvith a first five innings giving up OXIY good number of boys interested two hits.
