'ME~NT UNI VERSITY LIBRARY EXPANSION The steady expansion of the Trent University Library has rL- sulted in a collection of some 36,000 volumes, two years ahead of schedule, Professor T. H. B * Symons, President and, Vice- Chancellor, announced recently. By the time students arrived thîs Fall for the second academie vear of the Univcrsity, the Trent Library had already a cquiirKi'as largýe a collection of books as had originally been anticipated for September, 1967. This remnarkable gýrowth bas been made possible. in addition to the purchases of the library, by the many generous gfso, organi- izations and private individuals. The donations include paintings, prints, manuscripts, personal pa- pers, rare volumes, and many fine collections. Among these are a collection of French-Canadlan historical and literary works from the Ministere des Affaires Cultur- elles du Quebec and a collection of books, family papers, and local material of various kinds ireceiv- ed as the rusult of a programme about the Trent University Lîb- rary which was sponsored by CHEX radio and television dur-~ ing September and October, 1964. The rapid growth of the Trent Library hias made necessary the construction of a substantial add- ition to the present library facil- ities at Rubidge Hall, which is now nearing completion. When the extension is completed the library will be able to accommo- date 94 readers and 60,000 vol- umes. This is expected to suffice uintil the permanent library on the Nassau site is occupied in the sumnmer of 1967. The new library
