Clarke has, of course. estahlisfied if("- tennial projeet In purchasing over 1-wenty acres along the Orono creek for a park and nature area. Wo",k it mPoýý c-;îg on the projectbut other thant this, plans for Canadas Cen- tennial appear non-existent locally. The Township Centennial coordnating committee and the Orono Chamber Centennial committee have yet to produce any plans for 1967 nor bas any other organization in the area. Time is running out and 1967 is nearly upon us. Surely our hundredth birthday deserves a. better reczog- nition than is now planned for this district. * A Wasteful Prnces-ý Reeve Albert Campbell of Scarborough Township, speaking recently in Bolton, expressed the opinion that in- dustries should not be allowed to build on good agricultural lande, and pointed out that the resid ential communities at- tract*ed by industrial development are also taking up large areas of good land. No one with any thought for the future can. disagree *with Reeve Campbell, and yet the provincial governmeflt bas done littie or nothing to prevent a process which has been going on in Ontario ever since the Second World War. It is true that those municîpalîties which wish to take advantage of Ontario planning legisiation can prevent the loss of agrictltural land to other types of development, but ln practice only the provinciQl - or Dominion- goverfl- ment could possibly have the force to resist the pressure of an industry of any size. So long as the laws are written as they are. it is im- possible te criticize anyone who selis land to industry, but la the public interest somie sort of control ihould be es- tablished. Oîntario lias milllions of acres of poor farmilanid which would be n loss, and only a limited supply - more limîted every year -- of good land. If we really want Can- ada to grow in population in the years ahead. we must pre- serve ail the fertile land weean, or else resiga ourselves to impoiting food long before, we should otherwise have to do so. To destroy rich land by placing buildings on top of il i,, just as wasteful as to dig up valuable ores and throw them lu the.ocean. ilere is a field in which the Ontario Liberal Pa -5v mÏgbt interest ilseif as it prepares for the next provincial election. The present government bas been sadly remiss la this respect, and a change in approach would be a much more worthy platform on which to appeal to the electorate than a mere statement that if they attained owr the outs woulddo the same things as the las, only beýtter. -The Prt Hope Guide F S e'Favwre 'Opn HAY FEVERREMED IES ACTIIFED Tablets or Syrup, 4 oz. . $1.65' Regular $1.95 Regular $1.09 CONTAC 'ic', 10's .... 1.............- $1.Pl Regular $1.49 Regular $2.25 ,C{RICTDIN 'D',1's.. .......... $1.1 Regular $1.19 DRISTAN, Decongestant Capig. 10's $1.27 Regular $1.49 ESTIVIN, for the eyes .........".. $216 ied the Huronia museum on Geûr'ý 9 ~gian Bay.
