ORONO -VOLUME 30, NUMBER 24 ORONO WEEKLV TIMES, THTURSDAY, JUNE 22nd, 1967 Close to five hundrred Public School chidren competed in a Tabloid Field Day last Thursday at the Harvey Jackson Memorial Park in Kendal. The studeuts were from variou5 public schools in the Township of Clarke. T he field day this year took a new f onu whereby ail students were able to compete. The total enrolment of the upper grades in the schools was divided into thirty te-ams with ýsixteen young athletes on each team. The mem- bers of each teiam ranged from, grade four stud-enVsq to grade eight students. Also. every school: was represented i each team. In the competitions, each stu-- dent was' given the opportunity to take part. Scoring was based on high standard and low stand- ard with three points for high ,standard an.d one for low. Not only were team records kept but aiso individuai records. The sys- tem allowed every piqpil to com- pete regardieso of ability. Events also journeyed some- what from the general run with addition of such events a5 knee bends, football kicking accuracy, skipping and other like games. There was of course the running and jumping events. The first part of theý day wirt- ne ssed rain while the latter part wajý held in the blistering sua. The three top tearns received crests while the two top athIetes of the day received trophies. The top stiudents were Paul Parry of Kirby sehool and Brenda lien- derson of Newtonville, school. Paul gained 36 points while Bren- dia gained 38 in the ciame, events. Th1e trophies and crests were, pre- sented on behaîf of the Public School Board -by the chairman, Mr. Lawrence GreenwoGod.
