Dorothy Robinson HEALTH TIPS FROM IIIGH BLOOD PRESSURE Whether or not higli blood pressure is a dangerous condition depends on many factors, especi- ally the cause, says the Ontario Medical Association. For example, certain cases of severe high blood pressure are due to tumors of the adrenal gland. With the removal of the tumor, the blood pressure returns to normal. Certain ab- normalities of the heart or major blood vessels cani be the cause of hypertension, and with correction of these conditions, by surgerv for instance, the blood pressure' in many. cases returns to normal. If the hicl blood pressure is due to severe and chronic kidney disease, the outlook is not so good. In other words, ,in some cases higli blood pressure is not a dis- ease in itself but a symptom of some underlying condition. Alil cases of hypertension have to be considered individually. Complete physical examination must be car- ried out, with any neeessary di- agnostic procedures sucli as el- ectrocardiograms, x-rayi for ie art size, and kidney examinations. Only after a complete assessment. of the individual case can the doctor make a definîte diagnosis, prescribe proper forms of treat- ment and make a reasonable prognosis or outlook for that particular case. 11 - PROBLEMS INCREASE WITH 10-ACRE LOTS The Central,-Ontario Joint Plan- ning Board, which takes i 230 square miles in and around Osh- awa, has made one important con- clusion about the relationship be- tween urban housing prohlems and rural land. The reason for 10-acre lots is purely political. The province bas decreed that municipalities shal have control of the sub-dividing of land into areas smaller than 10 acres but for divisions larger than 10 acres no approval ïs needed.
