Group CUriticalt Members of the executive cl the Clarke Ci.rens' Committee who met last -Thursday evening with Council, Mr. A. Low, By-law Administrator, and Mr. R. SimpI son, chairman of the Planning Board, reported on Sunday on the Thursday meeting. The Thursday meeting was chaired by Mr. Aiex Carruthers,- M.P.P. for Durham. Mrs, Butt stated that Mr. Low and Mr. Simpson answered most of the questions. Mrs. Butt said any industrial area needs water services and couneil flatly stated, she said, that the TÉownship would biot be put- ting water into the industrial ar- ea south of 401. It was also reported at Sundays meeting that the Reeve had said that too much revamping of the by-law would resuit in the Depart- ment not accepting it. Counillor Stone was reported to have said that agricultural land in the'De- velopment zone could be sold as agricultural -land. Mrs. Butt also said that- coun- cil's main request to, the Citizens' Com.mittee was that we not oh- ject and that they might consider some changes but would give n1o guarantee. Mr. R. D. Morton, who attended the meeting with council said he had mixed emotions over the meeting. "I felt that two mem- bers of council were bard working servantsand were concerned with the people." Others, he said, left the feeling of "What's.,the matter with you guys." Not favourably impressed, said Mr. Morton. Mr. John Kimbail said he was -concerned with those having agri- cultural land whichis now ini the industrial zone. The comments at the Thursday meeting have "only, aggravated the situation," he said. S The main objections of the group seemed to be the zoning of most lands south of 401 Indus- trial, the procedure in the clice of the R2 zones and the lack of any residential lard around Kir- by. The group also guestion the thandling of Township affairs both' by Council and th~e planning board.
