ORONO WEEKLY TIMlES, THURSDAY, AUGUST 29th, 1968 The Village of Orono and sur- r.ouhding district lost one of its inost respected and active citi- zesis in the passing of Fred Ly- cett, age 60, on July 3th, 1968, MVemorial Hlospital, Bowmanville. Born and raised at Antioch, he attended Antioch Public Sehool, Orono H-igh Sehool ond Peter- borough Normal -Sehool. H1e taught one yeor at Wesleyville Public Sehool before going to Oshawa where he tau ght for 12 years, the last four as Principal of Mary. Street Sehool., Always keenly interested in ail sporting acýtivities, he helped orgonize hockey, basebaîl and rugby in the Oshawa Public Sehools. ,For years he ployed interme- diate baseboli in the Lakeshore Leogue and Inter coehed minor hockey and baseball i Orono, taking Intermediate basebal teoms to Ontario Championships. A, man of many înterests, he was a former mink rancher, a Christmas Tree Grower,, breeder of Stondardbred Horses and Gen- eral Insurance Agent. Always very interested in cdu- cation, he was at one time a mem- ber of the Durham District High Sehool Board, being chairman of the- Building Committee for the Clorke High Sehool. H1e aIso ser- ved for mony yeoars on the Orono Public School Board. H1e was a Past Master of Orono Masonic Lodge, a member of the oron4o Chamber of Commeke abd- of the Canadion Legion, Branch No.. 178, Bowmanville. Always faithful to bis church, he Bring Honour To Durham County Two Durham County 4-H mem- bers have brought honour to the county in the past two weeks. First of ail it was atnounced on July 3th that Terry Malcoln%, son, of Mr. ond Mrs. Hloward Mal- colm of 1.11. 2, Jonetville was se- lected from ail the Ontario 4-11 members to> represen<t Ontario, at the 'National 4-H1 clu b Confer- ence in Washington, D.C. This cobference is to be held in April 1969 from the 2th to 25th. We are confident that Ontario will be. well represented ln the per- son of Terry Malcolm. D 'avid Kellogg,, son of Mr. and Mrs. Loyd Kellogg, R.R. 1, Port Hope placed first in the Junior Division of the Judging Competi- tioti on Wednesday, Augtgst 7th at Peterb'orough Exhibition. Hav- ing placed first over a large num ber of contestants, he ws winner of the Chompionship Sçholorship prize of $4U.0 to be used for anyý educational purpose., Dovid aIso became the owner of the Royal Bonk of Peterborough Brandi tronhy for being the high suoring junior ithe~ competition David was olso the high junior in the Durham Couty Competition. Both boys are to be congrat- was a member of Orono United Church and served as chairman of the Board of Stewards. A keen student of Military Tactics, he was connected wth the army almost throughout,.his entire lifetime, attending his lirst military camp at sixteen and be- ing retired from the Suppiemen- tary Reserve of Oficers with the rank of Major on his sixtieth birthday. During World War II, Mr. Lycett served with the Mid- land Regiment as a Company Commander. During the last two, years of the war he was on staff at Pacifie lleadquarters Command mi Vancouver, B.C., as Brigade Major,, serving under General Pearkes, Mr. Lycett is survived by his wif e, the former Ethel Winter, and two sons, Douglas of Oshawa, Donald and wife Betty of Orono. Also surviving are his mother Mrs. W. J. Lycett of Oshawa, two sisters, Stella (Mrs. Wilfred Og- den) and Olive (Mrs. Robert Behim) both of Oshawa, brothers William \ of, Toronto, Frank of OShawla and Harry of Port Hope. After resting at the Barlow Funeral Home, services were conducted on Friday, August 2nd at 2:30 p.m. by the Reverend Ba- sil Long in Orono United Church Palîbearers were Richard Mc- Lean, Lawrence Hooey, Kenneth Henderson, Junior West, William Reid and'Horace Best. 1{onorary Palîbearers were W.
