ORONO WEEKLY TIMES, THURSDAY, OCTOBER 17th, 1968 OR?-ONO WEEKLY TIMES <Authe.rized as Second Class mail, Post Office DeparUment, Publishe>d every Th'ursday ai the office of publicatio Main Street, Phone 109, orono, Ontano Established in 1938 by R. A. Forrester Roy C. Forrester - Edltor and Manager A tete Corner The decision by the United Counties ta bine a plan- ning consultant as a means of figbting regional, govera- ment and with a possible breakaway of somne muticipalities to other centres is a move a little on -the late side. The United Counties have centainly been backward in this move and will now have an uphili cimb. Other centres such as Bowmaniville, Darlington are miles ahead and associating with centres to wbich they are losely assiciated with. The province of Ontario bad a number of years ago circulated a possible plan of' regional development in whicli Clarke Township was associated with centres to the west, Bowmanville, Oshewa etc. In the meantme Rowmnan- ville and Darlington have been active in discussions with municipalities to their immediate west in thoughts of re- gionial government. Now the Counties decides it would like to stay in tack. Surely somewbere along the lie someone should make a dlean decisiion. This could ecasily and possibly sbould corne from the Province. It more thani likely will in the end aften everyone has spent thousands upon thousands of dollars trying to protect what they see as their own in- terests. Adecision now by the Province could bc a money saver for everyone. lfoweven everythîng being noMnýl and accordîng to past experiences the costs wil soar and the decision delayed. Unfortunatey the Province, more than likely, bias the answer now.
