This increase represents the second part of a two-stage in- crease announced in January of this year and wiil be less than a three per cent rise in the price the farmer wiil receive for that portion of bis miik used in the fluid trade. The first stage was an increase also of 20 cents. per bundredweight and it hecame ef- fective on February 1, 1971. Fiuid milk is that which is sold in supermarkets, home de- ]ivery and other retail outiets in hottled or packaged form, to con- sumers. In announcing this inerease for the Province's 8,598 producers in the fluid milk pool, George R. MeLaughlin, Chairman of the Board, reviewed the Board's rea- son behind the two-stage increase formulated last January... "At that time," he said "in order to lessen the impact of an incrêase of approximately six-per cent in a period of adverse econ- omie conditions and high unem- pioyment, the Board decided to,- put into full effect the much needed increase to produce in two -stages,, of three per cent each." In èxplaining the necessity of an increase for producers, Mr. McLaughiin reiterated a state- ment he made last January which stili holds truc.
