Stett's Ph-"rmacy Docries Misuse 0f Nature Aron Hlope Township council receiv- ed a letter Friday which expres- sed the heartbreak a resident of the township has feit after the virtual destruction of a wild-Ilfe sanctuary he and another man have been trying-to create.on lots 20 and 2 1 within the township. M r. E. W. Smart expressed his disappointment that snowmobilers mnotorcyclists and vandals could not leaive his property alone, and in attempts to use the disused road allowance between lots 20 and 21 had completely destroyed the natural wild-life area and a magnificent beaver dam whilch had been on the corner of the two lots for at least the last twenty years. l'This dam", said Mr. S5mart "was one of the Iargest and fina- est beaver dams I have seen, and, maintained a pond covering a- bout three acres. "This pond was an integral part of a large area which we lad been at pains to conserve ln its natural state for wildlife for a, number of years. We could hon- estly boast of beaver, deer, foxes coons, porcupines, heron, ducks partridges, etc. Its existance se close to urban centres -was re- markable and delightful. "Last summer seine persons, Who apparently were devoid of any knowledge of the censequene- es te wildlife of removing the protection of their water area, toïok it uipon themselves, without permission from anyone, to des- troy the dam by opening a huge breaich in i i The destruction was neot a prank, but would have tak- en hours of labour by more than one person with the necessary tools.. "lIt would not be surpris- ing if the breach was made by dynamite." Clarke Council!
