The club is hitting well and gaining the necessary hits when required. Last Wednesday the club defeated Bowmanville with ease 12 to 7 behind some heavy hitting by most of the club members. 13oyrnanville at the -time held down top position in the league. on Saturday in Kendai the Eagles took' a sixth inning surge to score a total of five runs to defeat Port Hope 12-8 even though they were out bit 14 to ten. Charlie Reid held down the mound duties for the Eagles giving up 14 bits and taking eight strike-outs. Wayne Hogg pitched for Port Hope. In the batting department Pete Maartense, John Withe- ridge ans Jerry Thompson ail gained two hits with a double to Ralph Kennedy and single hits to Steve West, Fraser Wallace and Charlie Reid. Port Hope went out in front in the game with two runs in the first an~d three in the second. Kendal tagged one in the second, one in the third two in the fourth and one in the fif th. They then blew the lid off the game with five runs in the sixth off a, double hit by Ralph Kennedy, a single by West, Witheridge and Maartense. This was followed by a walk te Wallace and a single by Thompson to score Wallace for the fifth run. Port Hope scored a single run in the seventh and two in the ninth but this was not enough to overtake Kendal Eagles. KENDAL JUNIORS- UP AND DOWN The Kendal Junior basebal club had an up and down week-end with a 16-7 win over Port Hope and a 19-0 defeat at the hands of Keene. Kendal was in command of most of the éame with Peterboroug'h on Saturday but were.at a loss on Sunday, when they met Keene in Kendal.» Jerry Thompson, Bruce AI- ldred, Steve West and Bill Robinson at the toi) of the batting order played mouse and cat with Peterborough were placing hîts over the entire area. In the top of * the first Peterborough scoied one rufi of f two Kendal errors but froma then until the, last inning Kendal was in control. In the bottom of the first Thompson walked to first followed by a' bunt by Allred who also reached first-. West followed with a bunt With Thompson scoring and West and Alldred scoring on a hit by Robinson. In the second Thompson again lead with a two bagger followed by a hit by Alldred, a three bagger by West and a home run by Robinstbn. The score then stood at 7-1 for Kendal. Thompson and Alldred again scored in the thîrd with a single to Thompson'and a triple to Alldred. In the sixth Thompson scored following a double by West and a triple by Robinson and a hit by Norton. The top of the',batting order again re- peated in the seventh wi th four more runs to bring the score to 16-2. Peterborough then began to bore in with two runs in the eighth and three in the ninth following some sloppy play by the Royals. Mý,ike MacGregor was the winning pitcher witb 8 strike outs and giving Up 6 bfits. Keene blasted the Kendal Juniors Sunday afternoon 19-0 in a game finding the Kendal crew inept in the fielding department. Time and again they allowed the bail to bounce before making a play- for the hit bail thus allowing ruas to advance and score. .Keene amassed six runs in the opening frame, four more in the second and six more in the third. During this play perîod Kendal had used both Becker and McCoullough on the mound. Near the end of the third Michael Carman came in to pitch and held the Keene crew to three runs in the remaining innings. 1Keene is the top Junior team in the league. The keene pitcher was working on a no hitter until the very last. KENDAL ROYALS OVER PORT HOPE The Kendal Juniors took a 3-J Win over the Port Hope Juniors on Wednesday even- ing with EriceIMoore register- ing his fifth Win of the season no loses ses.. He allowed only five hits in the game. In the hitting departmaent Steve West drove out a home run, a double and a single ,While Rob Russell went for two hits, Bruce Alldred a home run and single bits to, Dan Norton and Bill Robinson. The Kendal team plays in Kendal on Saturday afternoon against Whitby. Tbey now enter the league playdown tournament, a double knock out to be held in Whitby on August 4th and th. The Kendal Club assured a posit- ioni in the play off s witb their Win against Port Hope last week. No wvord hias yet beeni received on their schedule of play in the Ontario Junior League playdowns.
