Dear Sir: It is encouraging to note the announcement that Ontario Hydro will be holding further public meetings concerning the proposed 500KV Trans mission line and that a more northern route is being studied This is a clear indication that the protests of the people of Clarke and Darlington have not been wasted. Progress at Publie Expense is not inevit- able. I believe it is in the interest of all Clarke Residents to insure that if these lines pass through our townships, they must do so in the area that will cause the least effect on both residential and agricultural land. This is not to sas that other environmental factors should be disregarded. Wher ever the lines go, every effort should be made to preserve the ecological balance within the area. I am sure that an alternative route can be established which will fulfill these requirements more sat- isfactorily than those initially proposed if all parties work together toward this goal. However, the extension of the time period, for submis- sions, the study of a more northern route, and the sche- duling of additional public meetings are only first steps. The continued involvement of the public. through letters, petitions and attendance at the meetings will be necessary to achieve meaningful results. Very truly Yours, M.G. To the Editor: PEOPLE OR POT It appears that Reeve Wood- yard and his country bump- kins have been conned by the big city promotors at "Mos- port" once again. The history of rock concerts is black one indeed. Apparent- ly Clarke Council didn't take the trouble to look at pictures of or read about the recent one in Watkins Glen, New York. Apparently the open sale of drugs at Strawberry Fields Festival of a few years back didn't get through to our sedate Senators of the Council Chamber. Is it possible that the promotors of this next concert are getting through to the council in some remunerative way? Why is it that council meetings to decide that these Mosport promotors shall be allowed to break the by-laws are closed to the public, the public that the by-laws are supposed to protect? In fact why do we have by-laws at all if these big city con-men are given open sea- son to do what they want. There is no way I am against kids, but for Council to allow these big city con-men to openly expose our kids to the things that parents are trying to protect them from is to open the door for the kind of immorality that is plaquing the United States today. Immorality in the streets and immorality in the Govern- ment. If these Ghouls from Big Town persuaded Clarke Coun- cil that this will only be a one day festival for the kids, the council is naive indeed. These promotors are after one thing and one thing only, and that is profit and do not care how they get it.
