The Stateman and The Orono Tlmes arrived in our mail box Saturday the fifteen- th at one o'ciock. The Sunday School girls were holding a bake sale Saturday afternoon in the church. However only those who were at church knew about it when the papers did not arrive in time. There was an abundance of cooking but few buyers. When our grandparents were children community picnics were held at Carscad- den's farm west of Kendal, now the Provincial Recreat- ion Area, and a baseball game was played where the cars are parked today. Basebaîl used to be played east of Allen Foster's house. Later it was played each year south of Kendal school. Then after the 1918 war the dia- mond wvas moved to the Harvey Jackson Memnorial Park. They always had a game on the day of fne Sunday School Strawýberry Festival and the visiting teamn were given a free strawberry supper at -that event each year in June. A buIsy week lies ahead with a pot luck supper on Monday December 17th, a Womnen's Institute -banquet Wednesday December l9th and a Christ- mas tree Saturday night December 22nd commencing at 7 p.m. because of the little folk. Each ciass will put on a number then Daniel Foster from Peterborough will lead the children in song accom- paied by some friends. Everyone welcomne. Sunday morning was a busy one at the Kendal church. Mr. and Mrs. Doug Walker brou- ght their son to be baptized' Mark Douglas Walker by Rev. T. Snelgrove. Then the White Gift service was held. The scripture reading was Luke 2 v. 1-12 and "this shaîl be a sîgn. A fine sermon was given on "The Hoiy Sign." Mr. and mrs. Joseph Walk- er of Orono attended the christen -ing of their grand- child on Sunday morning. The other grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. George Mercer white Mrs. Irene Mercer is the, great grandmother. News The Newcastle Detlachment of the Ontario Provincial *Police imvestigated the fol- Jlowing motor vehicle collis- ions and occurrences during the week of December 3, 1973 to Decemiber 9, 1973. Twenty motor vehicle coll- isions were investigated in which 5 persons were injured. As a result of these collisions, 6 charges have been laid under the Highway Traffic Act. The Newcastle officers also completed è2 investigations of a general nature. Some of these occurrences are as follows: One investigation involved the offence, "Break, Enter & Theft", one invest- igation involved the offence of "Attem pt Theft" and :3 in- vestigations involved the of- fence of "'Theft", There were 3 investigations involvinig the offence of "Trespajss"I and :3 ginvestigations involving the offence of "Wilful Damage." Also there was one driving complaint and one domnestic complaint. There w,,as one investigation into the reported loss of property and one investigat- ion into the finding of property Two charges have been laid relating to Crimînal Code offences and seven relating to Liquor Control Act offences.
