F The teachers elementary, secondary and, separate of Ontario believe this to be a denial of basic human rights and wish to protest this legislation by the Minster of Education. We have no quarrel with the Northumberland Durhamr Board of Education. This protest is not concerned> with higher wages. We are protesting the denial of basic human rights by the present Ontario Government and wilI therefore not be available for teaching duties on Tuesday Decemnber 18, 1973. Other groups such as: Ontario Medical Association, Metro- Toronto School Trust- ees, Ontario Federation of Labour, and Ontarioe Dental Assoýciation, support our cause. This type of legislation may affect you personally in the future. We regret any inconvenien- ce this may cause you, but feel sure Most parents will sýupport us in protesting fthis unfair, legisiation by not sending their chil.dren to sehool on Tuesday. Yours sincerely, F.W.T.A.O. and O.P.S.M.T.F. Decemnber 1'7, 1973 Dear Sir Mr. Editor t1he following letter I have sent to the principal of Kirby Cent.ennial It reads as follows: This-lettef- is-tiotell -you aiJ-d - aIl other teachers, who sup- port their Unions views that f~ objeet Io the- m-ethod-of usb1g-- school children toý carry their messages to the people. I had assume-d that teachers had more integrity than to resort to tacti cs used by other more radical Unions who blackmail and intimidate the public --'and,0'Governments, forcing the"r demnands upon them. I resent you using children (my childr-en) as the lever to get your own way. You are supposedlyv arguing thatn your civil rights, and mine are being threatened. i P do not agree. Your rights, and mine are thlat if you do not hîkie what you are being paid to do RESIGN - quit, like anyone else has the right to do. Doni't tender yolur resign- ation and expeet to take if back when everything is going your way. I support the Governmenit action in this issue. lu MY opinion, this legis- lation should be carried into aIl other labour management disputes. If we ahl toolcour toys out of the sandbox and went home everytime we disagreed with some one else thîs contry ,would not be as great as it is. Just look at Britiani today. I'eachers have a hard job to do instructing the young people of our country in the skills that wiillSee them through life today. 1 will suppoii you in every reasonable issue but this. IqF you are going to resign oýýver an issue, good then -ýquit, nm one is going to force you t teach if yo.u do flot feel you sho1-uld be doing so. Coun. AlanDear(Oha wa ik heý idea of staýggered- coIMmittee rmeeting :-so memn- bers of onecod attend another if they wished, but he also warned against "subcon- sciously trying to justify salaries by meeting ail the. tirne." Coun. George Ashe (Pick- ering) worried that ail day regional meetings followed by area meetings at-night "could jeopardize the ability to think clearly," and since council- lors worked at both levels that meeting dates should be harmonîous. 41CI, "tt ôGee±à As we greet the Christmas season, it is with deepest gratitude that wve thank aur friends for their kind support during the past year.
