Heather Sawyer opened the assembly with greetings to the audience and guests. Andrea Williams then gave an explanation on 'Project Canada. -A musical interlude was then enjoyed, as' the grade five class sang "Land of the Silver Birch. " Tracy Doyle read the poem, "Ontario is Beautiful." Mr. Garnet Rickard May- or-elect of the Town of Newcastle our guest speaker talked on flegional Govern- ment. Mrs. Lowery and Mrs. Elliott, former teachers of Kirby School told of the early school life in Kirby. Mrs. Knetsch spoke about her lite in Canada of the past eight years. Lisa Bevan, Susan Stolk, Mario Mendonca, Melanie Clingman, Nicky Battamns and Yvette Heykoop, told their stories of why they are proud to be Canadians. JHeather Sawyer, discussed Canadian Girls' Sports while David Elloitt, spoke on Can- adian Boys' Sports. Mr. Garnet Rickard then presentedthe Project Caniada crests to the Grade- Five Class.
