THE REAL CO0UINTRY FAIR *Richard E. Lovekin,-pres,çidenit of the Durhamn Central Agricultural Fair,-in-is president's message this year said, -We ust face the future realistically and remain the real 'Country Fair' atmosphere at any cost.",He also said "Race, tracks and carnivals have their place but the spirit of Orono, Fair miust remain true to its traditions if it is to continue to serve the comimunity and to set standards in both our social life and agricultural achievements." President Lovekin in is words bas hit upon the key note for the fair in Orono. Ilt does not resemble the fair that is annually held in Oshawa and it does have its own character. *A character set forth by those in the past andd many who are still active on the board. 0f course the fair can noit remain stagnant and it must progress with the times but keeping in mmid tatit is a country fair and a product of this communîty. Being a community and a country fair devised in this area it is wortby of our support botb as a spectator and as a worker of the fair. t is the latter area where in which there is a great need for further interest and support. t does, come in. small portions from new members but it could be of greater benefit if more chose to assis t in this part of the promotion of the fair. Anyway its Hi Ho to fair this week-end with plenty of activity planned for those takiùg the time to attend the great local show. The program bas been well advertised and most evcryone is aware of this program. domn your friends and visit the fair this week-end when the fair is open on Thursday evening continuing through Friday af ternoon and evening '1 s well as Saturday afternoon and evening. You help with your -attendance not only financially but morally as a boost to the directors of the Fair Board. STILL GROPING ABOUT Further to our editorial last week regarding planning and the lack of leadership from the Province in this matter it. is apparent that the facts, spe ak for themselves over happenings of the past week11 The Regional Planning Committee has directed a paper to ail municipal council in regards planning within the region and asking for their comments In this regard. An indication that this matter bas not been settled within the Reginn as~ of this ime. Further the Regional ('ouncillors are seeking information regardîng the North Pickering proposed development which is to be undertaken by the Province. No one on Regional council appears to know just what is going on in their own Region and they would like to know from the Province. Add to this the fact that the Rçgi on was not consulted over the purchase of land for land-banking in the, Brooklin area and it is eay to see that there is a lack of communication and an, even greater lack of delegating responsîblility for planning down from the Province. Planning has a long way to go to unravel its complications and to delegate authority with soime degree of certainty. WITH LYALL, WE MUSTAGREE Counillor Ken Lyall of the Town of Newcastle stated this week that it was time that the Town Counil set forth a policy for recreation throughout the entire area of the municipa lity. He stated there was a need for an overal recreation committee to correlate the various schemes now in operation throughout the Town. He see one group over the entire area working wiîth individual local groups such as the Orono Amateur Athletic Association. In this the counillor is quite right for such a scheme has been in operation in other areas for as long as we can remnember and back years ago was supported by the Provincial authorities. Thc municipality cannot continue on an Ad Hoc basîs. Such a processi will only multiply the problems and arouse tempers. 0f course there are other, areas requiring an overal policy and these w-ould include-community centres, arenas and of course local parks.
