The projeet designed to sup- ply adequate services to the rapidly growing, area north and east of Toronto will take over 12 years to complete and will cost nearly $200 million. Metro Toronto signed an agreement ewarlîer this mont month Sto supply the water1 to the a rea. Direct connections wiil be made to Toronto trunk mains and a systemn of pumping stations -and reservoirs is planned according to a gov- ernment report. A trunk sewer system will be bult in the two regions and the entire sewage flow will be treated and discharged into Lake Ontario fromfi a water pollution control plant to be located near Duffin Creek in Durham Region. The report released by Mr. Newman describes the watèr and sewer projects, "major prov7incial undertakings which will reduce major sources of pollution from urban water courses. The plans essentially follow growth and development guidelines contained in the government's Toronto-Centr- ed Region report of 1970.
