It is surprising how many of the children don't know one animal from another. Congratulations to mr, and Mrs. David Hughes (Debbie Boyd) on being one of the lucky winners of $1000.00 on the lottery drawn last week. Also we hear Mrs. Bert Trim of Starkville won $1000.00 too. The ladies of Kirby U.C.W. quilted another beautiful quilt last week. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Harris, Charles Ronald, and Julie spent the weekend at Griffith and attended the wedding of Shelley Vanstone on Saturday. Dr. and Mrs. Douglas Hamm, Kingston, spent the weekend with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Don Hamm. We hear the driver of the northbound car in the accid- ent at Kirby corner last Tuesdày died in Toronto Hospital on Thursday. He was from Downsview. It is no wonder there are accidents. It was really foggy and cars and trucks going by didn't have any lights on even though they knew there was an accident. It wasn't even safe to put flairs out. Who will it be this week! Miss Susan Ball and Mr. Les Hrebicek Toronto spent the weekend at her.parents Mr. and Mrs. Ken Ball. Sunday guests were Mr. Gord Walker and Gail from Thorn- hill and Mr. and mrs. Bruce Mercer and boys, Hampton for supper. Miss Sharon Lowery, Pet- erborough spent the weekend at home, also Miss Karen Lowery, Newmarket was home on Sunday. Hwy 115 13th victim The Hwy 115-35 "death strip" through here has claimed its 13th victim. Kalus Sehwartkop, 38- of 20 June Ave., Downsview, died Tuesday November 19th at 9 p.m. at the Toronto General Hospital as the result of injuries sustained in a two-car collision he was involved in at the Hwy 115-35 regional road' 9, corner here early that morning. The driver of the second car involved in the accident, Linda Gombos, 32 of R.R.2, Millbrook is listed in "fair" condition in the intensive care unit of the Oshawa General Hospital. Another highway victim, involved in the accident that took the life of a Kingston vouth near here Friday, November 15th is listed in "fair condition" at the Toron- to General. A hospital spokesman said Earl Marting of Box 125, Bowmanville is "improvmng daily." Kirby shrinks what's smaller than a hamlet? Newcastle planning advis- ory committee has voted to down grade the designation of Kirby from a hamlet 'on the proposed interim district plan The committee was told that the four stores here were designated a hamlet to allow for future growth. But member Doug Moffatt pointed out if a cloverleaf for Hwy 115-35 was put in, Kirby would disappear. "Move Kirby up a side road," said Mayor Garnet Rickard. "Move it to Kendal," sug- gested Mr. Moffatt. O.P.P. News The Newcastle Detachment af the Ontario Provincial Police investigated the follow- ing Motor Vehicle Collisions and occurrences during the period November 18th, 1974 to November 24th 1974. Twenty-nine Motor Vehicle Collisions were investigated in which fourteen persons were injured and two persons were killed. As a result of these collisions nine persons have been charged with offences under the Highway Traffic Act and two persons have been charged with driving offences under the Criminal Code. The NewLdstle officers also investigated eighty six occur- rences of a general nature. Some of these occurrences were as follows: there were eleven investigations into of- fences of "Theft" two invest- igations into "assault," one investigation into the offence of "Wilful Damage", and one investigation into the offence of "Freud." Other activities included investigations into reports of lost properties and invesitgations into various driving complaints. Seven persons have been charged with offences under the Criminal Code and three persons have been charged with driving offences under the Criminal Code. The following are brief reports into two fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents. On Tuesday November 19th, 1974 at approximately 9:25 a.m. a fatal Motor Vehicle Accident occurred at the intersection of Highway 35 and Regional Road 9, when two vehicles were in collision in the northbound lane. Dead is the driver of the northbound vehicle, Klaus SCHWARTKOP, 38 years of 20 June Avenue, Downsview, Ontario. Injured and taken to Bow- manville Memorial Hospital was Linda L. A second fatal Motor Vehic- le Accident occurred on Wednesday, November 20th, 1974 at approx. 11:00 a.m. when a single vehicle travel- led into the west ditch of the Clarke-Darlington Line Road approx. one mile north of Taunton Road. Dead is the passenger Paul Vernon HACKER, 48 years of 54 Orley Street, Toronto, Ontario. This accident was investi- gated by Provincial Constable H.T.
