Christmas Eve Church Services Ôrono United Church The Orono United Church is holding its Christmas Eve Service at 10.00 p.m. The service is being condtucted by the- Hi -Cgroup of the church. St. Saviourý's Anglican Church. St. Saviuor's Anglican Church holds its Christmas Evening service at 8.00 o'clock in the evening with Rev. Haynes in charge. POST OFFICE CLOSED-The Orono Post Office will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday o f this week and on New Vears day next week. HAPPENINGS- The Town of Newcastle Planning Board has finalized their interim district plan and have passed it along to council for their action. THIRD BOMUB THREAT-For the third time in recent years the Bowmanville High School had to be vacated for some 20 minutes following a phone cail stating that a bomb had been placed in the school. COUNCILLOR'S PAY INCREASE8The finance committee of the Region of Durham are to recommend to the regional council that counicil members be given a ten percent pay increase for the year 1975. The recommendation just 'skinned' through the committee. BOB YEOMANS Plumbing and Heating Orono cubs make donation of ýtoys Thle Orono Cub Troop withi iome forty cubs forwxented an interchange of Christmas gifts this year in order that they may bring joy to others. The local group donated a dollar each to a fund and purchase toys and games which were donated to the Memorial Hospital in Bow- manlville to be used by children who may be hospital- ized. A sumII of $31.96 was raised and converted into toys ang games and at the Orono Cubs Christmias party on Thur-sdayý evening \were peetdto Mrs. S .B. Rutherford acting on behaîlf of the hospital. The gift was a fine assortmnent suitable for various age groups and sex. The cubs played gamies and sang carols and as well enjoyed cookies and chocolate milk, the latter being niade by the leaders. Orono tow"n off ice to be vacant As of January lst the Town of Newcastle Office which has been carried on in the Village of Orono will close and the By-Iaw enforcement officer, Mr. Horace Best, will be located in an office at the Hampton Town office. This move was taken last Monday by the Town Council after some two hours and many procedural moves. The Ganaraska Region Conserva(tion Authority which owns some 72 acres with a small frontage on Rice Lake received a development plan on Thursday evening for the land. The plan envisioned famiiy camping with 90 to 100 camp sites, group and family picnic areas as well as playground areas and parking areas. The plan also detaile d services required for such a develop- ment which inluded a beach building, picnic pavilion, washroomn facilities, admnin- istration office etc. The plan also designed certain -areas for each portion of the development and spoke of sonne development to create a beach area at the lake front. The plan was approved in principal and wil1 be further considered by the Authority and the Mlinistry. Thbe plann- ers stated that the entîre cost of the proposal would reach $560,000.00 if carried out in ils entirity. The first phase would cost some $240,000.00. t appeared the general feeling of the Authority that nothing would be done until the Ball's Mill pro ject is completed. There appeared some interest in the Rice Lake a rea being used in the immediate future-as a pack and picnic area where picnic- ers would have to leave their cars at a parking lot -and walk intooa picnic area. This is to be further considered in the new year. The Port Perry Board states they are willing to discuss the matter. The Oshawa Board hiad hoped to open discussions this year but due to the lateness of the season the joint meeting will, have to be postponed to the new year.
