Showdown Resu Ifs UNITED COUNTIES HOCKEY Midgets On Friday, Jan. 14, at Orono arena, the United County Midgets defeated Millbrook by a 4-2 score. Marcel Cbarland led Orono with two goals while Kevin Russell and Curt Trimble had one goal each..Earning assists for Orono were Robert Grant, Kevin Russell, Marcel Cbarland, Lenny Jacob and Kevin Hogg. Orono's U.C. Midgets next game wiIl be in Bewdley on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 6 p.m Atoms The Kinsmen Atoms have had a tough time with Bewdley this season. Théy first met Jan. 7 in Orono witb Bewdley winning 9-0. The boys tried bard with Gregg Stacey looking very good. Saturday, Jan. 15 the same teams met in Bewdley this time with Bewdley, winning 6-1. The Orono goal was scored by Billy Storsbergen, assisted by Steve Mitchell. Gregg Phiiip, Derek Mumford and Steve Mitchell iooking good. Jeff Teravaînen belped hold the scoring down making some good saves for Orono. The next Atom game is Friday night against MilIbrook. Durîng most of Saturday, January 15, the Orono teams held their team Showdown competitions. ATOM - Randy Tennant, Greg Vey, Goeff Green (goalie) PEEý WEE - Rodney Armstrong, Joe Davis, Kevin TaIsma (goalie) BANTAM - Peter Krubkert, Martin Perry, 1 Dan Mitchell (goalie)' MIDGET - Pat Williams, Mike Mitchell, Jim Lycett (goalie) In the very near future there will be playoffs between the United Counties teams and the O.M.H.A. teams to get two shooters and a goalie fromn each division to represent Orono in playoffs against Omeemee, Cannington and Little Britain. There wili also be another team Showdown for ail teams to determine the Most Improved Player, DEPARTMENT 0F PARKS AND RECREATION Soccer Meeting PeeWeles The Orono Pee Wees'tied Newcastle- 3-3 ln Newcastle Jan. 6., their poorest effort this year. Orono scorers were Brett Johnson, Rhys Jenkins and Kirk Carr with assists from Steve Stec and Brett Johnson. The boys were back to their strong playing Jan. 14 beating Bewdley 6-4. The teamn played a good game with the Une of Kirk Carr and Brett and Matt Johnson playmng super hockey, billing several cheap penalties and scoring the first five, Orono goals. Kirk and Brett each put in two goals with the other two coming from. Matt Johnson and Steven Vanhavehike. Assists went to Kirk Carr (3), Steve Stec, Brett Johnson, Don Doxteter and Dan Prosek. Mark Stapleton and Jay Olesen did the goal tendmng for Orono. The Pee Wees next meet Mllbrook on Saturday. ,O.M.H.A. NEWS Midgets On Friday evening, January 14th, 1977 the O.M.H.A. Midgets travelled to Port Hope. Tbey were defeated by a score of 4-1. Scoring for Orono was Gary Clapdorp from Jim Leslie. Saturday evening, January l5th, 1977 the O.M.H.A. Midgets played at homne against Uxbridge. The score was 6-1 for Uxbridge. The lone Orono goal was scored by Doug Hancock wîth assist to David Sunstrumn. Monday, January 17th, 1977 the O.M.H.A. Midgets played their 3rd game in four nights when tbey journeyed to Port Perry. They again came out on the losing end witb a score of 4-2. The Orono goals were scored by Ron Opoka assisted by- Gary Clapdorp and Jim Leslie. Ken Evans scored the other goal with assists to Mark Cbarland and Pat Williams. Al interested persons wishing to help with the Boys Soccer League are asked to attend a meeting in the Centennial Room in the Newcastle Comnmunity Hall at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 3lst, 1977 Loppet at Mosport Some three hundred took part in the third annual Labatt's LOPPET race (cross country ski race) at Mosport on Saturday. Most competitors completed at least two rounds of the the track in the 20 kilometer event. The win went to a Scarborough man who completed the event in one hour, F. R. Tennant Fuels Ltd. thirteen minutes and seventeen seconds. Kayko Riihiak. The second place winner, Risto Santala, 37, of Witby was only two seconds behind the winner. Santala was the winner of the event in 1975 and is an active çompetitor in events ail across the province.. Santala travelled to Barrie on Sunday to enter a simîlar event. Bantams The O.M H.A. Bantams piayed in Newcastle on Tuesday, January 11. Newcastle scored a goal in the first period and then Orono came back in the second period to tie it up. Joey Seneco got the goal on a pass from Robbie Taîsma. Newcastle got another goal and then Paul Reed tipped in a pass fromn Duane Major. Then Newcastle scored two with Ross Stutt slipping in Alan Webster's pass to end the gamne Newcastle 4 to Orono 3. December 22 On Janiuary 7, 1977 the Orono New Dutch Oven Tykes played a gamne against Orono Camnsport. The Camrsport team won the game by a score of 3-1. The goal scorers for the Camsport teamn were No. 17 Darrin Demnis from No. 15 Jason Carleton, No. 18 Wayne Atkins unassistedi, No. 15 Jason Canleton, unassist'ed. The goals from the New Dutchi Oven temwere scored by No. 8, Ted Guadet una,.ssi.sted, Kevin Mumford; Stephen Lycett, David Bailey and Brent Gatcheil alil piaed ani excellent' game. On Monday, the boys played a L.N.H.L. team from Oshawa. Bob Myles opened the scoring on a picture play from Preston Long. Oshawa tied it up to end the second period. There was no socring in tbe first period but in the third Paul Reed blasted in a goal from the rîght side on a pass up from Bob Myles. Paul Reed got his second goal of the night from John Bolton and Terry Hedges. Orono Novice Hockey Newcastle Block played to a 2-2 tie Newcastle Block defeated Mr. Roast with Millbrook. Paul Henry scored the 2 Beef by a, score of 3-1. Newcastle Block Newcastle Biock goals. scoring was done by Paul Henry with a bat trick. Mr. Roast Beef's goal was scored by Lee VanSchaik, assist to Brad Roberts. January 14 Newcastle Block were defeated by Millbrook 4-1. Newcastle Block gocal ~was scored by Paul Hienry. Newcastle Block put forth a good effort. On January 14, 1977 the Orono New Dutcb Oven team played Orono Camsport again and tbis time the two teams played to a 2 al tie. The goals scored for the Camsport team were by No. 9 Biily Buchannan, unassisted, No. 9 Billy Bucannan, unassist- ed. The goals scored for the New Dutchi Oven team were byt No. 9 Scott MeCullough fromr No. 7 Kevin Mumford, No. 9 Scott MicCuilot-gb from No. 6 Daryl Brooks. Shane Harbenso, Brent Hutton, Jimi Sharpe and Billy Prosek all played an excellent game.
