M idget H ockey N ew.s Repeat Perform a nce for Gera Id Robinson On Thursday evening, Feb. 3., the -midgets travelled to Cannington for their fifth play off gamne and were defeated 8-0. This loss eliminated them from the play-offs. Saturday evening, Feb. 12 the midgets played at home against West Rouge and were nrol defeated 1-0. Orono is nom, in a Round'- Robin series with West Rouge and Stouffville. Other teamns may be added to this series at a later date.1 The nex game of Lbis series is Monday, Feb. 21 in West Rouge. A week ago Sunday Gerald Robinson came in for two wvins at the Kawartha raceway. H1e repeated this performance again on Sunday. The first win came with a drive with Maston's Pride, owned by M.A.' Found of Bowmanville. In four starts this year witb Maston's Pride Robinson has driven to three wins and one second place finish. In{ the final race of the afternoon Robinson again posted the win this time driving July Time whicb in four starts bas been in the top three winining positions at the wire. Robinson placed third with Gander Song in the fourth race of the card. Junior West drove to a win in tbe seventh race driving Glenholme Song. in five starts this year Glenholme Song bas had two wins and a second place finish. West placed fifth in the sixth race wlth Pegi O'Direct with Derek Newman fourth in the samne race driving Grace Scott. Orono's Newcastle Block played Bowmnanville Friday, February il, and with the only goal in the game going to David Little and assisted by J(eith Vey, shut-out Bowmanville 1-O. The win is credited to the wbole team for a well played game. On Saturday morning the boys played Little Britain in Port Perry and with tbeir second shut-out in a row won 2-0. The scoring in this game was done by Paul Henery and Robin Lycett. In both cases the assist went to David Little. Again the whole team is credited for a great team effort in the win. UN ITE D COU NTIES HOCKEY Orono Atom s Blanketed by Newcastle On Tuesday, Feb. 8, the Kinsmen Orono goalie, Jeff Teravainen played a Atoms played in Newcastle losing 10-0. The good game considering the number of boys put, forth a good effort against the strong Newcastle team with Steven shots on him. The next Atonm game is in Mitchell and Warren Lycett looking good. Orono Friday. night. M illbrook defeat Orono PeeWees The Orono Pee Wees were defeated for the first timne, in a schedule game, by Millbrook 2 with a score of 5-2. At the end of the first period the score was Millbrook 2, Orono 1 witb the Orono goal scored by Danny Prosek from Kirk Carr and Bret Johnson. In the seCond period Rh ys' Jenkins scored from Kirk Carr to tie the game 2-2. During tbe third period Mdillbrook scored 3 unanwered goals to win 5-2. Outstandinig players for Orono were Jeff Dillon and Danny Cavan. O.M.H.A. Banfamis The O.M.H.A. Bantamis started play-offs on Monday night with Woodville for a best 3 ont of 5 series. The Orono boys game was certainly somnewhiere else as they were defeated by a score of 7-1. The Orono goal came from Robbie Taîsma, assisted by Joey Seneco and Martin Perry. The series goes to Port Perry on Thursday nighit and back to Orono next Monday night. On Sunday, Feb. 13, the Canawood Bantamis fad an exhibition game with thie Bowmianville lMior Toros. Peter Kruik ert slipped in a rebound from Paul Reed to take the first goal of the gaine. The Toro's scored two to end the first period. There was no scoring in the second period and Paul Reed opened the scoring in the third to tie it uIp0on a pass from Bob Myles. With jusqt two minutes lef t in the game the Toros scored agairi to take the win 3-2. 1 1 Saturday night, Feb. 12, Pickering Bantamrs were in town for an exhibition game. They got two unanswered goals in the first period. Orono openied the scoring in the second on a goal by Paul Reed from Terry Hedges and Bob Mles. Pickering scored the only goal in the third to end the gamne:3-1. Again Dan Mitchell played superbly between the pipes as well as Paul Reddick an7d-Preston Long. Seventeen young skaters fromn the Orono Skating Club competed on saturday in the Great Pine Ridge skating competiton'held in the Dar- lington Sports Centre. Activi- ties started early in the morning, 7:00 a.mr. and con- tinued throughout the day and evening with completion at il1:30 following the presenta- tion of trophies. There were some ten clubs competing witb somewhere between 100 and 200 skaters i nvolved in thie activities of the day. Individual classes saw competitors numbering close to the twenty mark, especially in the younger age groups which speaks well for the sport throughout the area. The seventeen Orono skaters was the largest group from Orono to attend the annual competitions. The Orono Club with a shakey start this year due to arena accommodation, bas an enrolment of near one hundred. A delightful feature of the com-petitions was a demnon- stration of skating by Miss Andrea Derby of Bowman- ville and Stan Tisnovsky of Newtonville. Stephanie Hood of the Orono Club was awarded the silver miedal in the Pre-Nov- ice Ladies under twelve thus being the top comnpetitor from Orono. MNiss Heather Sawyer placed fifth. in a class of seventeen in the Pre-Novice Ladies over twelve years of a ge. Peter Bolton of the Orono club placed. fourth in the Preliminary Men's competi- lion.
