To add to his frustration a flag flying at his own home was also stolen on MVonday evening and it was only put up on Friday evening. The postmaster states that over the past three or four years ten flags have been stolen from the Orono Post office flag poles even though the tie cord is now above the roof level. H-e pointed out it requires a ladder to replace the flags and cords every timne they are stolen. At his- own home be has had at least three flags stolen over the past two years. Reports have also been received from Nesting Furni- ture over the stealing of flags. A MUSICAL TREAT This Friday at 7:30 piii. the Clarke High School is sponsoring its annual Spring Concert when the Almonte High School Band will be featured along with the Just In Time Stage Band, the Clarke High Scbool Bands and Choirs. Plan now to takçe in the evening for some fine musical entertainment. CELEBRATE ANNIVERSÀRY The Great Pine Ridge Kinsmen Club celebrated their fourth anniversary on Monday. The past few years have been active years for this young club in the co-mmýunity and their associa tes, the Kinettes: Best wishes from all. STOP IGHTS BEING INSTALLED Stop lights at botb the Kirby and Taunton Road intersection are becoming close to a reality. Preparations are underway for the installation of these lights. PUBLIC HEARING A public hearing bas been schedule to be held at the Orono Public Scbool concerning the proposed increase in rates by the Orono Communîty Telephone Company. The bearing is to be held on Thursday, May l9th. ELECTED GRAND SUPERINTENDENT Mr. Bruce Tink, former councillor of tbe Town of Newcastle bas been elected grand superintendent of Ontario District 10 at the recent 119thi annual convention of tbe Grand Chapter of Royal Arcb Masons of Canada in Ontario. In speaking with Miss Reid last week ber Sam Cureatz, a Newcastle village lawyer with the firrn of Lovekin and Cureatz was elected Tuesday evenin-g can- didate for the Durham East, Conservatives to contest thie eelion of June 9tbi. Cureatz was chosen over two other entbusiasm for the unity of. Canada and the successful holding of Canada Week was most revealing. Miss Reid as area chair- mani heads a committee to promote Canada Week in this region whicb takes in an area candidates, Mrs. Ann Cow- man of Courtice and Mr. George Stephens of Bowman- ville. The Bowmanville Higb School auditorium was filled to capacity f'or the meeting (Continued page 7) To honor Rev. & Mrs Long this weekend The congregations of the Orono and Kirby United Churches along witb resi- dents of the community are to take time this week-end to bonour and say "Thank You" to Rev. and MVrs. B. E. Long. Events bave been planned for both Saturday and Sunday in recognition of twenty years of service to this comm unity by Rev. and Mrs. Long and'also in recognition of Rev. Long's recent election as president of the Bay of Quinte Conference. On Saturday, May 2lst commencing at 7:30 p.In. in the basement of the church a program of entertainment, lunch and socializing bas been organized and ail in the community are în-vited to attend. On Sunday a special service bas also been planned with Eric Barr as guest speaker. Mr. Barr, a resident of this community, is completing bis first term for the Ministry at Queen's University. Other special guests will include Rev. Harry Mellow of North- mninster United Cburcb, Osh- awa as well as extra musical selections. Lunch will be served following the service during a social bour. The event bas been termed a time for bonouring, for remembering, for socialîzing, for renewing acquaintances, giving recognition and above ahl a timie to say "Thank You.
