Lung cancer now world wide epidemic *It's almost thirty years since the connection between cigarettes and malignant dis- ease was first proven, and yet - despite intensive efforts to eradicate the cigarette smok- ing habit' through public education - lung cancer is now reaching the proportions of a world wide epidemic, accord- ing to Toronto chest surgeon, Dr. Norman Delarue. Dr. Delarue has vivid memories of that first dis- covery, way back in 1947. The war years over, he had gone to the Ramnes Hospital in St. Louis to take additional training with' Dr. -Evarts Graham. At that point it had been Dr. Grabam's opinion that lung cancer, was sex- linked, but as time went on and hormone therapy proved disappointingl]y ineffective, other possibilities had to be considered.
