Schools in the area may use the school on a day baasis as a learning experience for stu- dents. Other groups and individuals wili have the opportunity ta visit the scbool when it is nçt in use by classes under the jurisdiction of the Board.. Analysis of walleye, large mouth bass, small mouth bass ana carp fromn the ,Scugog River, bath upstream and downstreama of the tawn of Lindsay showed acceptable leveis of PCBs and a range of agriculturai pesticides. The Ministry of Environ- ment advises that ail four species of fisb from the- area are suitabie for unreËtricted consumption. PCBs were detected in some fisb sampied, down- streamn from. Lindsay, ail well beiow *the advisory levei of 2.0 parts per million. Earlier sampling of fisb -for mercury in Lake Scugog and Sturgeon Lake, situated up- strearn and downstreamn fromn Lindsay, revealed' mercury leveis with the acceptable lumit of 0.5 parts per million. These lakes will be sampied again this summer as part of an ongoing contamination monitoring, program by the Ministries of Natural Resour- ces and Environment. Orono pool opened Monday The Orono Swimming Pool at the Orono Park which bas been closed for over a week was re-opened Monday morn- ing. "Regular swirnming and water safety classes which #ad been transferred ta the Waltona Park in Newcastle last week are now back at the Orono Park. Regular after- noon and evening swimming as well as weekend swimming wifl also be back ta normal and with the present heat yave will be more than %elcomed. S During the "Down period" last week new filtration units were instailed at the pool. ulty opration of the forni- units necessitated the installation of new units. Mr. Fanning ýof the Parks and Recreation department stated tbat they bad been having trouble witb the units last year but were repaired aty that tume. Canton School a museum Work bas been underway ver the past couple of years by summer student groups wa open the aid Canton Schoi house this fail as a museumr piece. Further to imis end the Board of Educeation has also designated the school as a special school for educatian so that classes using the schooi on a visîting basis may receive provincial grant for transvortation.
