The Park wa rdens to keep peace St. Saviours ANGLICAN Serv ice - 10:00W)rn Re%. Xlam Lu id Increased park use unfort- unately brings with it an increase in rowdyismn and vandalism in our provincial parks. In an on-going pro-, gram to reduce this major problem, twelve park ward- ens appointed in the Lindsay District received special trai- ning through the co-operation of the Ontario Police College. Under the Provincial Parks Act, these offîcers have al the powers of the Ontario Provincial Police within a provincial park., Unfortuniate- ly they have found it neces- sary to use these powers exceedin-gly more often this year than in previous years. There has been an increase thýis ,'ear ocf over 60 percent in acts of rowdyism and vandal- im i some district parks. This has resultçd in over 190 charges being laid for various viol!ations under, Provincial Statutes and the Criminal C ode. This represents an increase of over 79 percent. Wi th the park users co- opera- tion and assistance, the problems caused by a minor- ity of park vîitors will be drastically reduced. If during your park visit, you or your family notice anything unus- ual or are disturbed by other park users, please report the incident as soon as possible to thc park staff. Most parks maintain 24 hour office ser- vice, seven days a week during the peak 'summner season. Your identity willI always be kept confidential and your assistance will enable staff to control the problem when it arises.
