The guest speaker, intro- duced by Merrill Van Camp, is a local farmer and busi- nessman, Donald Gibson. Mr. Gibson has recently been appointed by the Provincial government as chairman of the Consumers Marketing program. The new program was recently created by the Ministry of Agriculture to promote the sale -of Ontario products to the consumers of Ontario. Mr. Gibson explain- ed the reasoning behind this Marketing program, and the proposed advertising cam- paign. The government of Ontario introduced this pro- gram in the Throne S peech. Council on Monday approv- ed a proposai to develop a District plan for the Village of Newcastle. The planning staff Js to undertake this* work using information that is now available. The work is to get underway as soon as possible. The plan is to be approved before anymore sub-divisions are approved in the Village. ORONO CROSS WALK The Public Works Commit tee is awaiting a report fromn the Director of Public Works regarding a crosswalk at the Orono Public School. CAN USE NEWCASTLE BLOCK On question by Counc. Don Allin if Newcatle Cement Blocks could be used in the construction of the public works garage, he was told that the specifications were such that Newcastle Block could be used if they were competitive. TO CHOOSE CONSULTANTS FOR HAMLET STUDIES Council on Monday author-_ ized the Town Manager and the Planner to evaluate the applications of three consuit- ing firmns and to recommend their choice to council. The consulting firms are being hired to carry out a number of Hamiet studies in the Town of Newcastle with the Village of Orono being included. The thrust of the program is to get our own people in Ontario to consume more of Our own products, which means bigger crops and more production for the Ontario agricultural produc- ers. He also urged the Agriculture producers that they have to produce a high quality pro- duct at the best possible cost to compete with prices of similar products on the super- market shelves.
