Town and regionat odds in planning The Town of Newcastle and committees of the Region of Durham have fotmd themn- selves at odds with one another during the past two weeks in the field of future planning. At a recent meeting held in Bowmanville the Regional Planning and Development Committee proposed future restidential development in Bowmanville extend to the west of the Town. Newcastle council has been considering that future development should extend to the north and east of Bowmanville. Newcastle council had cho- sen a route along the Training School road north fromn High- way 401 to Concession Street. The r egional committees have opted for a route usîng Cemetery Road from High- way 401 to Highway 2, then directly north to vere west north of th Bowmanville-Zoo to Mlearns Avenue. At the joint regional meet- ing Counc. Bob Dykstra, Newcastle and a member of the planning and develop- ment committee, was at odds with Mayor Rickard, chair- man of the public works comrmittee.
