l-Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, February 8th, 1978 OH C ru les out sen 1ior plat The Planning and Develop- ment committee for the Town of Newcastle was told on Monday evening by Chris Sheldon of Ontario Housing Corporation that the Corpor- ation had turned down three planned deveiopments in the Town of Bowmanvilie design- ed for senior citizens. It was pointed out by Sheldon that the deveiop- ments were turned down for financing due to location of one, servicing probiems for sewers on two of the plans and also due ta excessive rents to be charged.' He pointed out that rents for a one-bedroom senior unit should be in the neîghbourhood of $22500 ta $250.00. Ail three Bowman- ville proposais had set rentais for one-bedroom units at $300.00 and thîs he said was too much as far as the Corporation was concerned. He said he had hoped that the Corporation wouid have rec- eived more than the three applications and feit there was a present need of 40 ta 50 units at this time in Bowman- ville. In suggesting alternatives to programs through the Ontario Housing Corporation he noted that contact could be. made through the private sector for supplement units for senior citizens. He did state that Mr. Veltri had been contacted during construction of his recent compiex on King Street but at that time most of the residential unîts in the complex had been rented and he understood that ail units were now rented so that Vetri was not interested in suppli- mental units. Orono seniors plans- now, being processed Mr. Sheidon pointed out to the committee that the Dur- ham Senior Citizens complex for Orono was now being processed through the Cor- poration. This proposai wil provide a total of forty units, in Orono. He aiso said that the Durham Senior Citizens are to make an application, as he understood, for a simiiar compiex in the Village of Three cut fromSwitzerland trip The Province of Ontario last week made it known that they wouid not heip finance a total of seven members from the Region to an industrial Steve's Furnfiture Shop Furniture Ref inishing e * Dining sets to occasional1 piec es *Yes, we do re-upholstery * abric Samples Free Esti mates : RR.1, Steve Johnson RR1Orono 983-9630.
