Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, April 19th, 1978-5 The Newcastle Lakers' baseball club will start out- door workouts on Sunday, On March 6th, Orono Atoms met Ops at Ops Centre for the first game of the play-offs. The first period say Ops go ahead with 1 goal. Stephen Murree picked up the only Orono penalty for the period. going off for interference. Ops got i penalty. In the second period neither team scored. At 9:55 in the overtime, Greg Vey picked up a game misconduct, 5 minutes for high sticking, and an automatic minor but Orono did not give up and did very well to hold Ops off with a man short for 7 minutes of the overtime. Ops finally managed to score with 31 seconds left to play. Ops picked up 2 penalties in the overtime. The final score Ops 3, Orono 2. M M ) SPO R TS Tennant Fuel Atoms Zone Final Play-off Orono vs. Ops MAPLE SYRUP .OPERATION Close to thirty classes have been slated to view the maple syrup operation at the Forest Centre and is currently being held with eac'h class being given a two hour tour of the operation as well as helping to collect the sap from 60 trees that have been tapped. Schools as far away as Cobourg are visiting the operation. The sugar shack on the property was obtained when the Authority obtained the property from the Ministry of Correctional Services. This is the first that the operation has been active for a number of years. EDUCATIONAL CLASSES The Forest Centre is almost booked solid for the remaind- er of the school year by school classes staying at the camp from two and a half to five days. The outdoor experience is billed along with/ outdoor eduction. The educational staff at the Centre are now preparing for the 1978-79 school term and expect some forty weeks to be taken up at the centre for outdoor educational pur- poses. The school operates again this year during July and August at which time 24 boys will be housed and fed at the centre. During their stay the rangers will work for various depart,- ments of the Ministry as well as for the Conservation Auth- ority. Pines musicians do well A number of students at the Pines Senior Public School did well at the Kiwanis Music festival held in Peterborough on Friday and Saturday of last week.
