When combined with the Wintario Grant, Saturday's festivities contributed $2,013.00 to the fund. The first cliche mhat cornes to mnd is "wait until next year". As wimh any firsts, there are always bugs to be worked out but for the nlost part, the whole day can be considered a success when $2,000MO is involved. To make such a day like mhis successful, many people have to be invoived. Since the funds went to the arena, almost everyone worked on a voiuntary basis. Gord Lowery worked Friday and Saturday making sure that delicate players had perfectly mani- cured fields. This job was made even more difficult by the fact that, up until Friday nothing had been done by the recreation department. Gord arrived before most of the players did and after every- one had lef t he turned out the lights to end the tournament. Again, ail of this effort was rewarded by two McDonalds coffee mugs and a tip of the hat from all players. Once the field is prepared umnpires were needed to make things run smoothly. All umpiring was also done on a voluntary basis (some play- ers must have forgotten this). Don Keetch spent ail day on the diamonds working a majority of games. Bob Proie came froi MViIlbrook to spend the better haîf of a day calling bails and strikes. Dave King and Gary Bridger also work- ed somne games as did many players. Without these work- ers none of the games would be possible. Even though lobb bail heid the spot iight, many omher people worked to help mhe cause. Hockey Momhers and Figure Skating Mothers pro- vided gaines for the kids. The United Church Young Peoples -,roup (HiCs) manned the ,-efreshment stand ail day. Peter Swan provided musir and equipment for mhe even- mng dance. Bemh Carr repre- senting McDonalds supplied juice machines, juice concen- trate and 96 coffee mugs as player of the game awards, prizes and tokens of mhanks. Naming people who have helped or contributed is a dangerous endeavour since it is impossible to name every- one. The Orono Chamber of Commerce, lead by Alice Irwin, worked hard to ar- range the activities, fought valiantly to secure a beer tent and donated the trophies for the competitions. Many peo- pie took time off work to play, coach, or work at the other jobs needed to make a day like Orono Arena Day suc- cessful. They ail will get littie credit except forme feeling of accomplishment mhat only they can feel.
