4-Orono Week1, l'iines. Wednesday, JuIy 12th, 1978 c SPORTS Belleville sweeps double header On Sunday, July 9th, the Belleville Blues defeated Kendal Eagles twice, by scores of 9-4 and and 12-6. In the first game, Reg Abrams, who had already hit a three run homýrun, hit his second of the day in the top oi the seventh inning to break up a 4-4 tie as Belleville scored f ive runs in the seventh to secure the victory. Erie Moore made his first start of the year after a long lay-off with shoulder problems. He pitched an effective game except for giving up the two homneruns. In the second game, the Eagles were neyer in it as Belleville took a quick 5-0 lead after two innings and neyer looked back. Ted Becker took the loss for Kendal Iasting only two innings. The next game for Kendal is on Wednesday night at Jackson Park against Whitby Merchants. The Eagles then travel to Newcastle, on Saturday to play the Lakers at 2 o'clock. Britain) Orono Bantam Girls Softball Team two of the Orono Bantans Girls Softball has played three games and lost only one. In game one the girls defeated the other Orono teans by a score of 21-16. AlI of the girls played well with homeruns hit by Tammy Boughen, Heather Sawyer and Janette Armstrong. On June 27th the girls played the first ganse against Bowmanville. At the end of the third inning Bownsanville was leading by a score of 15-3. By the end of the fifth inning it was 17-16 for Orono, the rest of the gaine was close with Bowmanville winning by a score of 25-19. Homeruns were hit by Shelley Richards and Heather Sawyer. In the second ganse against Bow- manville the girls won 18-17. They played a good ganse with honseruns bit by Shelley Richards, Heather Sawyer and Beth Gatcheli. Their next home ganse is Tuesday, July l8th at 6:30 in Orono Park. SAVED RECORDS FROM FIRE In speaking on Tuesday with Mr. John Manuel, whose office was gutted by fixe in Bowmanville on Sunday evening he informed. us that 99 percent of ail his records were saved from the fire. These records contained in filing cabinets had very littie damage to them, he said. Those customers who records were destroyed have already been informed, he said. WINS KINSMEN JACK-POT Mrs. Sheila Bruton of Orono won the $300.00 Great Pine Ridge Kinsmen bingo jackpot on Tuesday, June 27th. The bingo bas been operating twice a month in the Orono Town Hall on alternate Tuesdays being most successful. For an evenings enjoyment amongst friends plan to attend. $25,000 FIRE DAMAGE An over-turned earth moving machine at the Darlington Nulear plant last .week caught fire with an estimated damage of $25,000.00. The machine was owned by Ainor Construction. CONSIDERING FUTURE Representatives from Port Hope, Cobourg, Hamilton Township and Hope Township met last week to discuss the future of their municipalities following the recent turning down of a restructured county systemn of government. It was the first such meeting to be held since the county vote which was negaiive to restructuring.
