SPORTS Orono Squîrts undefeated The Orono Squirts have been victorious un ail games played. These include Newcastle at Orono 23-5 for Orono. Homieruns bit by Andrea Burnliam, pitching being sbared by Leanne Lycett and Leanne Reid in ail games. Our second game being at Newcastle, Orono won again witb a score of 12-4. Homeruns bit by Leanne Reid ýand Wendy Stolk. The third game played at Tyrone, Orono aam coming out first, 17-11. Homeruns hit by Leanne Reid. The fourtb game was played at Orono against Hampton. Orono again victorious 23-1, Homeruns it by Leanne Reid, Leanne Lycett, Wendy Harness. In all cases the girls played ýexceptionally well, to the best of their ability. The coaching of this team is shared by Mrs. L. Brown, Beth Gatcheli, Sheila Bouglien, and Patty Blaschke. Congratulations, girls. Orono 2 active schedu le On July 17 the Orono 2 team played their first game against Hampton and unfortunately tbey were defeated. The score was 25-3. Orono runs were earned by Elizabeth Ruth Gatcheil, Shelley Richards and Susan Stolk, whà earned bers on a bomerun. On July lth Orono 2 came up against Hampton once more. Athougli they lost again, tliey played a mucb better game. The score was 28-11. No bomeruns were it. On July 21, Orono 2 played the Bowmanville team for the last time and rame out victorious. A heavy. rock concert is scheduled to be lield at Mosport north of Orono, on August 26tli. The proposed event is a one-day event commencing at 10 a.m. and continuing until 10 p.m. It bas been reported that sucli groups asKansas, The Commodores, Wha-Koo, Dave Mason, Prism and the Village People have already been engaged for what is being called Canada Jam, a giant concert. Preparations for the con- cert are underway and the promoters see no problems in meeting ail requirements set by the Durham Regional Police or the Town of New- castle. Negotiations have been uixderway with the police for a number of weeks. The promoters bave stated that security will be tiglit for the concert and that the Régional Police will be assist- in patrol by 'peer group security'. It was stated tbat tbis requires biring sligbtly older people in the commun- ity above the age of those ini attendance. This kind of security bas operated well at two California Jam concerts thathavie attracted towards a quarter of a million spect- ators. The promoters are renting the park from Mosport Park Ltd. and will set up a field bospital properly staffed and will also be looking after parking and sanitation facil- Mtes. In speaking witb Larry Simpson by-law enforcement of ficer f or the Town of Newcastle lie said the pro- moters were going to abide by the regulations of the Town of Newcastle. He also said a licence was being prepared for cotiadil meeting on August l4tb and that the licence would incelude ahl the regulat- ions that the promoters must adhere to as well as posting bond for policing. The pro- moters will bave to pay police costs relating to policing by Durham Police.
