Madeleine Hadley. Another major fire in Bowmanville last Saturday is also suspecteci of arson and the fire marshall's office has been calleci in to investigate. The fire has destroyeci an olci canning factory building on 'Hunt Street in Bowman-, ville with the interior totally gutted. Firefighters and equipment from Orono, New- castle, and Bowmanville fought the fire from 10:40 arn. to 2:45 p.m. The building was owned by Schwarz. Bros. and had been used for storage by Bush Hog of Canada. It was the second fire in the building in the past three rnonths and the fire on July lst was also suspecteci as an attempt of arson. Most of the equipment that. had been storeci in the building, about $120,000 worth, haci recently been removed andi sent back to the heaci company in the United States. The building has been Standing in Bowmanville for the past seventy years. Within the last three weeks the Bowmanville department has had four calîs to an old barn on the property of Dr. Howard Rundie where fires have started. The long sleeves were of lace and the long skirt ended ia flounce. A veil of french lace hung from a halo of daisy mums. She carrieci a bouquet of yellow roses and glacis with white daisy mums and baby's breath. The bride also wore a necklace of gold and seed pearls belonging to ber great grandmother. 'the work now underway not only includes.some need- ed repairs brought about by the years but also work in restoring the exterior of the building to its original ap- pearanee. The estimnated cost of the exterior work was been set at $9>200.00. 0f this amount $2,532.00 has been raised through donations with a similar amount te, corne from Wintario andi a further $2,500. from the Town of Newcastle council. It has been noted that the revenues for the work do not as yet match the estimat- ed cost of the project. The work is being undertaken by the Heritage Foundation of the Town of Newcastle. The old Kirby School is the first building i the Town of Newcastle to be designated as a historical site. New footings have been placed under the shed to the west of the school property and steps to the basement through this shed have been replaced. The chimney in the building has also been repair- ed. These funcis total to some $600 to $700 and work included in this project would be redec- orating along with some cupboards and otber needeci items for their operation of the school as a museum. It is feit that there is not enough ,Money at the present time to undertake ail work desired in the interior of the school. In speaking with Mn.
