The highlight of the day by unaniîmous consent was the taik given in the afternoon by Miss, Mart:h-q Veldhuis ol Dundas, Ont. As ide from lier vast knowledge of plants, particularly in the field of cacti, bromeliads, and exotie plants from ail parts of the world, Miss Veldhuis is a talented and gifted speakoer and has a natural and spontaneous sense of humour whîch was constantly preseift throughout her taik. Fortuuately, the Chrysanthemunis were flot servereiy damaged by the sharp frost eariier lu the week and there was keen competi- tion in this class, and a large number of entries. The fail arrangements using dried materials, fruits, nuts, -flowers, foliage and driftwood, were most attract- ive and imaginative. Iu the other categories also, the wide variety of the exhibits mnade a beautiful display ranging al the way froni Afrîcah Violets, Begonias, Geranlunis, Coleus and other coioured Foliage plants. An- other interesting display fea- tured a collection of herbs, each entrant submittlng at least three varieties, and there was also keen competi- tion lu the vegetable section. Madeleine Buckley was the judge of the show and her comments were much ap- -preciated, especially her helpful hints on how to gain points when presentingy items for show. The guest speaker, Mr. Bernard Dilling, assisted by Mrs. Diiling on the projector, showed somne beautiful slides taken lu his owu garden at different seasons of the year and following the slde show, gave a most interesting and useful talk on how to care for chrysanthemunis, including the taking of cuttings and the ongoing care of watering, fertilizing, pinching of shoots to increase the number of bloomis and to avoid straggly plants, pest and disease control, etc. Chrysanthe- munis are the stars of the late summer and fali gardens and, as illustrated by the sldes shown by Mr. Dilling, comne lu ail shades of yellow, orange, bronze, red, pink, mauve and Foliowing is a list of the prize winners: Class 1 - 3 Geranluni Blooms 1.
