Town wiII ask ÔMB postpone commercial hearings The planning and develop- ment committ ee for the Town of Newcastle lias asked the planning director to provide a report for the next meeting of council in which council will petition the Ontario Munici- pal Board to postpone any hearings relating to commer- cial development in the Town of Bowmanville. Planning director, Leslie Kristof informed the commit- tee that the Town. would find itself in a most uncomfortable position if 0MB hearings were allowed to continue dealfng with three major commercial developments. -1He said he would like to complete the district plan for Bowmianville. as . well as provide council with a market analysis for the area. 1 would like to have ail information available and then let the 0MB make the decision what proposed developmrent would proceed. At the present time we do not have sufficient information to take before a hearing, lie said. "I would like to deal with the whole issue at one hearinig", lie said. He also pointed out that the two proposed large developments in the Waverley Garden areas could not survive and the developers know this. He also said it was known that Some 60 percent of the dollars are going out of the area and that this should be reduced. H1e stated lie was aware that such 'as the market analysis was going, to cost money butt he promised to keep, the cost as low as possible. Singleton as a fact finder to assist the Northumn- berland and Newcastle Board of Education and its ele- mentary teachers in their negotiations. A Commission spokesman said Mr. Singleton wilI pre- pare a report on the niegot- iations, identifying the ont- standing issues. The fact finder is expected to present a report within 30 days.
