With the exception of a few poils Rickard was always out in front and this continued as the returtis in Bowýmanville were tahulatied. ln Ward three Bill Clarke took a comfortable lead over his two opponents, incumbent Ted Woodyard and councillor Gray, His strength was spread out over the èntire ward while Woodyard found môst of his votes in Kendal, and central Orono. Gray took his edge in Newcastle Village but it was a narrow edge over Bill Clarke. Clarke totalled 1270'. Gray 979 Woodyard 9001 The race for local council in Ward three was a run-away for Keith Barr ovér Larry Pooler. Barr rang up 2028 compared with Poolers 1042 votes. Orono polls -had a wide edge throughout. In Ward one Ann Cowman unseated regional councillor Bruce Taylor by a count of 2,097 votes to 1,648. Mrs., Cowman had been a council- lor on council during its first termn but was defeated by a narrow margin in the 1976 eleetion for regional council by Bruce Taylor. Jasper Holliday seeking his second termn as local councillor in Ward one returned with a thousand vote majority over his oponent Bernie Hemning. Holliday 2,298, Hemning 1,288 votes. In Ward two and battie for the position of regional counc- illor was waged between the winning candidate Ivan Hobbs and Don Allin who has held the local council seat since the inception of regional council. Hobbs, a former regional councillor'during the first term of the new Town of Newcastle took back his seat on council by a narrow margin of 69 votes. Hobbs 1,596, Allin 1,527, Broadbent 1,170. Maurice Prout seeking election as local councillor in ward two took a wide margin over his opponent, Bruce Colwell. Prout 2,556, Colwell 1,655. 0f the five new faces to appear on the 1979-80 council four have had previous coun- cil experience either on the Town of Newcastle couneil or former counculs in their own centres. The deceased was ernployed on General Motors security for twenty- five years retiring in April of 1976. He was a member of the Oorno United Church and served for three years with the Canadian Navy. He is survived by his wife, Rosella, Orono, a daughter, Marlene (Mrs. Thos. Burnett) Oakville, Ontario, a son Terry of Guelph and five grand- children, Patti, Marjie, Lisa, Kirsten and Andrew, a sister Dora (Mrs. Gaynor> of Fen- elon Falls and three brothers, Roy of Cookstown, Don of Bobcaygeon and Vernon of Orono. Mr. Graham rested at the Morris Funeral Chapel in Bowmanvi]le. Rev. Basil Long of the Orono United Church officiated at the service. Palîbearers were: Mr. Dick Gibb, Keith Gibb, Phil Cann, Danny Cann, Ed Milîson and Robert Beacock. Honorary bearers were: Mr-. Wm. Reid Sr., and Mr. Gordon Watson. Flower bearers were Mr. Murray Mourer, Mr. Earle lvy and friends fromn the GM plant protection. Interment waýj made in the Orono -,zrnetery.
